So rebuilt today with 28 gauge ni200. Came in at .07ohms. Vaped it for roughly 20 min and put the batteries on to charge so I had a fresh set for work. Reinstalled the batteries and once again get .04 ohm low resistance. Sadly didn't have time to rebuild. Gonna say bye to my Velocity rda and try my twisted messes to see if I have any issues. Hopefully just the rda

Are you having any other problems with your velocity? I'm asking because I should have a tobeco clone coming and hoping that it will be effective with nickel.
Hi All, I am prepping to do my FIRST TC coil build for a SQuape Rs on a Vaporshark Vaper Flask TC DNA40. I have the SQuape coming in the mail and expect it this week. Also, 26g Ni200. I will probably use the "W" deck just for the space. I am a well practiced coil wrapper in Kanthal. My priority is flavor. So, the following:
1. What ohms should I be working for? It seems everyone is 0.1 area, why?
2. Should the coil be spaced or tight? (or either?)
3. What temp "range" is common?
Just looking for some experienced input to get me started on education and a coil built.

When I use 26 gauge I do 15 wraps around a 3mm drill bit. It is around .06 to .07 ohms. I vape around 525°f at 50 joules. As for spaced or tight I just leave them tight. I have tried both and I believe it doesn't make a difference
Also in other news built my twisted messes and had no problems. I am thinking it was the insulator on my Velocity...

The problem isn't your Velocity, your builds are all over the place. I build with 26g nickel and currently I have 2 Velocity's, both have a 26g 12 wrap 2.5mm ID spaced coil and both read .10Ω. I have built previous coils as well in the Velocity that have always been .10Ω using 12 wraps.
Your builds are coming in far too low compared to where they should be at, so either you are building contact coils and the wraps are shorting, or your legs are not secured properly (hard to have that problem on the Velocity though).

I have always used contact coils and have had no issues until recently with the Velocity. Just swapped it out at my local vape store for a new one and I'm having no issues.

1. Building with nickel means more wraps than with kanthal, so getting to even .1Ω can be a challenge. In the beginning of TC .1Ω was as low as you could go with the DNA40. Now with the new YiHi chip I think you can get down to .05Ω.
2. Spaced is the best option. There are people that will say contact coils work just as good, but they don't, at least not reliably. Contacts have a tendency to get wonky randomly.
3. 450F is the most common and will protect you from dry hits. Higher is fine, but if your wick gets dry you can expect burnt hits. Personally I drip using nickel to avoid that, so 450F is my limit, otherwise I might as well use kanthal.
So, because the nickel is so low in resistance, just getting to .1 ohm is 10ish wraps. Okay, Thanks.

I don't know why it's working.. it goes against everything I know and have learned.. I have NEVER made a touching ni200 coil but I made a parallel 28g and it is working just fine! Has anyone else done this before?
