So there I was at my fave bar. I've vaped in there plenty of times in the past bunch of days, and never had a problem with anybody: management or otherwise. I had always used my GenJoye 510 manual battery and have gotten three people interested in purchasing a PV. The other day I received my Vector Variable Volt (Lavatube 3.0) in the mail and happily vaped the day away. This evening I hit up my bar, proudly showed my bartender buddy my APV and vaped occasionally while surfing ECF :)D). He comes over about an hour later and told me the manager said I can't use, 'one of those things' in there. I said okay really cheerfully and put it away and promptly got up, went outside and continued what I was doing. Honestly, it bummed me out. There were five customers there, and only two of us were at the bar. The rest were in the family area (away from the bar area). The gentleman I occasionally chatted with had no problem with the Triple V and even asked a little about it. There were no 'zealots' around or anything like that. It was just straight up discrimination (in my personal opinion). The manager didn't even have the cojones to come up to me himself and explain, he just sent my friend to tell me because he knew I wouldn't cause a fuss. I guess it's not the fact that the manager didn't want me to use it inside that bothered me, just the way he went about letting me know. I HATED going outside, it made me feel like I'd never quit smoking in the first place :(. Sorry, I just needed to vent a little bit.

Well, overall - that sucks! Especially as the boss-man didn't have the courtesy to speak to you personally - that's rude.

But 'discrimination'? Seriously?
He who owns or controls the place, makes the rules. Doesn't matter how cowardly his behavior or how illogical, irrational, or just plain dumb we think the rule is - we gotta' play the game and abide by it...or take our custom elsewhere.

Ah. I get that. It's just that it DOES matter how much logic goes into a decision, otherwise what are rules for in the first place? If he had come up and said someone said something about it, or that there was a policy in place that I wasn't aware of that would have been fine. To have someone ELSE come up and tell me he didn't want it going on for no other reason than he could smacks of discrimination (once again to ME personally). I went to a nightclub once with my friend, and they wouldn't let my friend in because he had a shirt on with gold lettering. It said, 'American Eagle,'. Since the lettering was gold, the bouncer said it was, 'a little much,'. That's stupid, nonsensical and discriminating. He let in a bunch of hotties with the same exact glittery stuff on, so why not my friend? Who controls the place is irrelevant; everyone deserves the same treament, and if you're not getting it it is discrimination at its basest form.

Sounds like something rlh455 should have told his bartender buddy. "Hey ya know vaping makes ya really thirsty?". Then, hopefully, he could pass that on to the manager. :D

Haha, my tab came out to six bucks and I tipped him three. He knows I always tip well, that's how we became friends in the first place :D. Eh, the bartender wasn't the one who made the decision in any case, thanks for your input though guys!

...everyone deserves the same treatment, and if you're not getting it it is discrimination at its basest form.

Discrimination has variety of meanings, not all of them akin to the Whites Only signs of Deep South infamy.

When you visit a multiplex theater and decide—based on movie posters—that you're more likely to like movie A over movie B, C, D and E, you're discriminating. Problem? No.

Discrimination in the sense you're talking about has to do with who you are, not what you do—and you're mistaking one for the other. Discrimination "in its basest form" would be a bar manager that excludes service to white guys from Baltimore with 44 posts because of a preconception that such types—as an inevitable consequence of who they are—sit at bars and smoke funny cigarettes.

If said manager made no such prejudicial judgement of who you are, only had a problem with your behavior—due to ignorance, misinformation, or simply an unwillingness to deal with something that looks like smoking, though it's not—it's no more discrimination in a base sense than requiring that female patrons not breast feed their babies at the bar.

America's favorite past-time used to be baseball.
Today its people telling others what they shouldn't or can't do

Guess a lot has to do with Americans addiction to the Nanny State and Political Correctness.
Both of which should be flushed down the toilet.

It's fine if an owner decides not to allow something on their property (although a little common sense doesn't hurt). If this bar doesn't allow vaping, ok, probably none of us would want to go there. If a club doesn't let a guy with a sparkly shirt in, ok, go somewhere else and tell everyone how crappy that club is. I think word of mouth is the best way to get a business to change bad policies.

rlh445: What would be the harm in talking to the manager and explaining what your PV is? And if he does know and is stubborn, maybe talk to the owner?
