Hey guys,
I just got my new ego finally. I am trying to figure everything out. I have the small carts that came with the ego, as well as 10 from Johnson creek. I only get about 10-11 hits before I get the burning taste which hits me after I almost inhale that nasty smoke. When I drip I get about 8 hit so it is not much different than when I have the cartriges on it. Also when I get the burning tast I pop the cartrige off and it will only take 2-3 drops before its full. I don't know why, and yes the filler is making contact with the metal mesh on the atty. I don't know why its not wivking it to the atty. I am kinda dissapointed since I cam from using carts which would last me 5 hours before any burnt tast.

Downtownfish - That is exactly why you will see most people who have been doing this for awhile mostly drip. I have seen few veterans who use cartridges. Those that don't drip usually have a cartomizer they really dig or a bottom fed mod. You could use the blue foam mod if you are hooked on cartridges it seems to do a better job wicking the fluid to the atty than the polyfill does.

This is just what I've discovered since I started vaping, so please don't shoot me!

I started out using carts like most people. They were just okay, but I noticed the same things as Liv. Nasty taste after 10 or 12 hits, messy and sometimes just a PITA. I tried doing a couple of filler mods with regular polyfil and Fluval with varying degrees of success. The easiest and most successful mod was just cutting off half of the filler that already came in the carts. Still, I had occasional problems with leaking. I tried the eGo Mega carts and those were just okay, too.

I decided to try the eGo Mega cartomizers. I had very few problems with leaking, but you have to fill them with a syringe and the initial punch through the fill port is a big PITA for me. I thought they were nice at first, then I noticed that they started to taste off after refilling a couple of times. I mean REALLY off...slightly burnt cotton and flavored juice off, so back to carts I went with my tail tucked. I really thought I was stuck with carts and started trying some ZFM's until I started reading more about the CE2 cartos.

I finally broke down and ordered 3 5-packs of the 3.0ohm. I've been vaping them for a few days now and I have to say that it's changed my entire vaping experience for the better. The taste and vapor production is consistent and fantastic! I just take out all three rings and refill with a regular syringe. I clean them the same way I've cleaned my carts without any problems. Mind you that I've only been using them for a few days, but right now I'm incredibly pleased with them.

Just my current experience and .02 cents...

With my E2 R4s I will get a burnt nasty taste after about 8 to 12 draws, the burnt taste is burnt flavoring. Then I have to clean them with alcohol and a hot water rinse. After that, they are ok again after a dry burn. I have genuine Joye 510 cartomizers and they consistently work with no burning taste. When they go dry, I get a weird metallic taste. Fill them back up and they are good to go again.
Gunk builds up on the atomizer, and begins holding back the heavier flavorings and it takes longer to wick all of the components in the liquid to the heating element. Once enough gunk is built up, the heating element will start to burn the gunk.

Many variables. If you want to stick to carts -- the eGo heats up a bit more than a standard 510 PV (was that your previous PV?) so the newness of the device might be throwing you off.

Look over the searches you've made including 510 cart Mods.

Like most others, I gave up on trying the various cart mods. Some enjoy cartomizers, I drip. I've never used a cartomizer but I know dripping is a vast improvement over carts. After a short learning curve you'll experience a better quality vape and a tiny fraction of the maintenance time associated with carts.

Good Luck :)

Drip with a new atomizer. You'll notice a big difference. I find once you burn that polyfill it seems to stay in the flavor for a LONG time. One word.. uck...

2-3 drips on a new one. Let it soak for a minute. Pull the trigger, wait a half second, pull slow from your eGo for 2-3 seconds, let go, pull for another .5 seconds, then inhale. Its second nature after a while.

If you're a lung inhaler, don't expect a lot of vapor on exit, but if just a throat puffer, there will be a lot.

Since I am a big lung guy, I french inhale every 2-3 times to get a great throat/nose hit. Exhaling through the nose helps too. Or there's always the cool Gansta method of letting it come a little out, then inhaling it back in.. lol That makes good throat hit too.

Yup, I'm with the others. Carts were just a world of frustration for me.

I started with cartomizers, and stuck with them for a long time. But eventually I got tired of having to get more and more, because they just don't have good lifespans. I realized one day I had about 50 cartomizers in various states of usability, and just decided I was done with it.

So I tried the CE2 cartomizers. Some people like them, but I was just appalled by the quality control problems. Yes, I've tried R4. I'm not willing to spend my money and have half the stuff I get not work properly without me taking it apart and putting it back together again.

So then I tried regular atomizers and carts. Carts never seemed to give me more than a few good hits. If I pulled out the filler, much of it wasn't even getting wet. And even if I pulled it out and dripped directly onto it and stuffed it back in (huge mess) it didn't seem to help. That polyfill stuff just doesn't let go of the juice.

I tried a couple cart mods, but it was such a hassle for only a modest improvement. So I said screw it, and tossed the carts.

Then, I tried dripping. Better taste, but I wasn't getting as hard a hit as my cartomizers gave me.

So I moved to LR's. And now I drip on LR's exclusively. I don't drive, so that's not an issue for me.

I have to drip about as often as I would have lit a cigarette. So instead of a lighter, I just have a bottle of juice. Atomizers, when well-maintained, last for ages.

It's cheaper, easier, less messy, tastes better, and more consistent than anything else I've tried. Some probably disagree with me on the "messy" part, but for me, well, I get less juice in my mouth and less juice on everything else once I figured out the right rhythm of dripping.

I'm going to start driving soon. So for that, I'll either put up with a cartomizer or get myself a juice feeder. Probably the latter. I'm done buying stuff that's designed to last only a week.

I started dripping, then moved to cartomizers, then back and forth a few times. I found cartomizers, although they have that funky taste, are worth it when you're gonna go driving for a period. Otherwise dripping works good.

My favorite setup now is a cartomizer, filled with the condom method, with the carburator tube installed and a plastic drip tip on the end. When I start tasting funky flavor I look into the carto and see its getting dry, I refill. Probably about 3-4 hours i get each time. I also add about 20-30% VG to my 100% pg flavors to cut them (just started doing that since I found the VG at walmart today).

When done right, the vapor production from this this is simply amazing. When done wrong, it can leave you feeling like you're not getting the entire experience.

I like the flavor better with dripping, but I get tired of getting that burnt taste after a few drags and then having to add 3 or 4 more drops every two minutes.

So I'm still using cartomizers most of the time. Three boxes of five last for three weeks at least, and I fill most of the 15 cartos once each day. For about $26 every three weeks for cartos (bought 12 boxes for $75 during the last litecigusa sale, including using $10 of rewards), I don't have to inhale or taste burnt vapor or mess around with dripping constantly. I take about 9 drags in a couple of minutes, so it's just too much fiddling for me. It's just as easy to drip 15 drops into a carto about every hour and place it in rotation with the other 14 cartos.

I love the flavor from dripping, but it's damned inconvenient when you're driving. I guess I've just had really good luck so far with CE2R4's. The only time I don't like them is on my 5V PT. Whoever said it tastes like a burning mannequin was right. Ce la vie... I still drip like crazy both my PT and my eGo/Riva batts. The cartos get me through my commute and the day at work with minimal fuss. I've become quite good at pulling out the rings, filling them and replacing the rings. They taste better, have lasted longer and are less of hassle to me than the eGo Mega cartos.

I prefer cartomizers for the same reasons many people have posted already. I like my vaping to be as easy and trouble-free as possible and cartos seem to work for me in that regard. When I'm at work and want to really enjoy the flavor of my juices I'll drip a bit, but usually switch back to cartos before too long. The cartos I'm using are the Boge low-resistance 510 ones from VaporKings.com. Super consistent with regard to quality, easy to fill and they seem to last as long as any carto (whether LR or regular) I've ever seen.

With all that said, the reason I don't use cartridges anymore is that I was getting that nasty burning flavor all the time until I discovered the reason is that the wick inside eventually ends up burning up and causing all your juices to taste like burnt plastic. You can remedy this by using some tweezers and removing the wick under the atty's bridge. Give the atty a quick rinse and dry afterward and voila! Good as new.

As far as cleaning cartomizers and atomizers, vodka is your friend. I started using genuine Joye cartomizers, and they are sealed so you can't take them apart to clean them. After about 10 - 15 drags I can get a burnt taste in them, at first I thought I was screwed. I can't clean them so I just wasted my money. But thanks to vodka, I fill a syringe with about 10 ml of vodka and stick the needle down to the coil and give it a vodka blast. Dry off the battery connector and vape the vodka out and then the juices start flowing again and off you go. No burnt taste. I have been cleaning them with vodka, run 20 ml of the vodka through the reservoir and it will drip out of the air hole/ battery connector, let it sit for a few minutes, then blow the vodka out. I refill them with new juice and vape out the excess vodka and the juice starts flowing and I'm good to go. That method doesn't work for my E2 R4's, I take the rubber seals out and soak them in vodka for about 12 hours, rinse them and blow those out and dry burn them til the coil glows red.
