So I could be wrong, but it looks like you had the beginnings of a short. A short can happen for a number of reasons; a bad atty, screwing the atty too tight, a mal-adjusted adapter if your were using one, etc. When a short occurs, the battery spring is designed to collapse, dropping the battery away from the top contact so the current is interrupted. When this happens, the spring often changes color and smokes. I would contact Rob, to verify and to make arrangements for a replacement spring. When you contact him, be sure to include your email that you used to place your order, the order date, and a detailed description of your setup (ie battery, atty, juice)
