Just for my clarification, are you using the tankomizer set up with the plastic tank that goes on the spike? I have'nt used the ego C, but have used an Ego T setup which is just about the same thing.
Ya gotta know what ur using to add any significant input. Just the battery type don't help.

I'm not familiar with the tank system but I am very familiar with the ego. A burned taste is most likely a wicking issue in that your atty head isn't staying wet enough. I have ego c's and the ego twist. I took off their cone and atty and use something different. I don't like theirs either. I would look into a clearomizer or a vivi nova for your ego if you're wanting something simple.
Simple is good. I'm getting rather tired of the burnt taste, and sometimes it just seems like they're plugged up, even with a brand new atomizer. Frustrating. 
Ya definitely if they're getting plugged up cleaning or changing them will fix it temporarily anyway. I initially bought 5 of their changeable heads. Still have 4 brand new. The first one was enough for me to move on to something else. Lol.
We use a 50/50 blend that is pretty sticky. I would imagine that the boiling of the atomizers, which I was advised by the store I bought them from to do, hasn't really cleaned them as well as taking them apart to clean them would.
I always just soaked mine in vodka then blew hot water through the end until it runs clear. Let em dry and done.
50/50 and sticky will gunk them up pretty regularly, I agree with letting them soak and then blowing them out, I'd try that, if that doesn't work you may want to look at something else, Stardusts, or something of that sort will probably give you better results, and you'll notice a marked improvement in flavor as well.
