I am rebuilding my own coils with cotton wicks and nichrome 60 with 1.5 ohms...anyway I'm tasting burnt cotton...i didn't have this problem with kanthal (also used cotton wicks), any advice?

The only time I have had that issue is if I have used too much cotton which doesn't allow proper wicking so the cotton dries out and starts to burn, What I have learnt with cotton is Less Is More
Agree with misohoni.... Have you tried using less cotton? I have used both types of wire and cotton with no problems. Also, could the cotton not be getting enough juice?

Just like the rest are saying... less is more. With standard organic cotton balls I just unravel the amount I need for the length of wick desired. From that piece I use about 1/4 of the width and roll it to make a wick for my coil builds that are roughly 5/64 inch in diameter.
I also switched back to cottonballs for my wicks...i was trying cotton yarn but i was unimpressed...anyone else have an opinion on this
I did not care for cotton yarn either. Maybe because it never did quite fit as well as a wick made out of a piece of cotton ball that was made "to order" so to speak. I suppose I should fiddle with the coil diameter and see how the yarn does when better fitted. I do have that whole ball or yarn AND that whole bag of cotton balls.....

dude just get organic cotton BALLS. theyre the best because of how well they hold juice and because its easier to make a wick the size you need for your coil. and ditch the nicrome. nothing beats kenthal. find the gauge for you and do it
I do think i agree with father time on the kanthal over nichrome...but i have 100 ft to burn through, so ill be using it for a whilee...and i will have to give the organic cottonballs a try

Next time i go to rebuild a few coils ill give yarn 1 more try, just to see if splitting the fibers helps, thanks for the tip...as far as nichrome i don't seem to b having to many problems, the taste is a little off, but it'll do for now, but at some point i will switch to kanthal permenent like
I have seen where if you test the coil for impedance and haven't wet the cotton it will burn , make sure the cotton has juice before testing the coil other than that maybe the cotton was dry in some place and burned due to low juice? I have yet to use this cotton for wicking but will be trying it out this week for sure..
