Also when i buy new cartomisers I get a really awful taste at first until the liquid is worked into the new one, is this normal ? is there something i should do to stop this? all help appreciated, thank you :)

Hi Siggy
Welcome to ECF
Sorry you're having a problem with cartos. I'll share some general info but it will help if you give specifics of your setup. Specs of your carto & battery.
I use quality cartomizers such as Boge or Smoketech. I do not use a tank. I fill first time with a syringe & let them rest overnight to soak up juice prior to first vape. While. vaping, I keep my cartos wet by topping of with a few drops every so often. I make sure I am using the correct resistance (ohms rating) for my battery.
I have never had a Boge or a Smoketech carto be defective (knock wood).

It would be helpful to know what device you are using. If your cartomizer is a low resistance for example and you are vaping it at a high voltage that could be the cause.

I stopped doing the "condom method" the way they show it. I start out by jamming the carto condom over the battery end of the carto but once your juice is gone I pull it out a little bit and drip from the top. Make sure you let it sit and fill for a little bit, don't be in a big hurry. Wicking takes time.

I would recommend stardusts (version 2 with the long wicks or the new rebuildable ones) or even better the Vision Vivi Nova. Note that if you have a provari, lavatube, or a v-tube you're going to need a 510-to-Ego adapter to get the stardust to fit.

The burnt taste and the awful taste can be prevented if the cartomizer is filled up correctly, you can use the condom method:
A Great Way To Fill Cartomizers - YouTube

Also, have you considered using a tank or CE2 or the fluxomizer:
FLüXomizer CE2 Cartomizers - GotVapes.com
these are excellent and with no burnt tase what so ever.

I hope this will help and welcome to the ECF. Good luck.
plastic thing in too hard, because when i loosened it, hey presto, i got a great taste, thanks again x:)

A cartomizer holds approx a ml of e-liquid. To fill not using the condom method.

Tilt cartomizer, drip in about 10 drops avoiding the center channel.
Give it a thermometer shake (to get the e-liquid down)
5-10 more drops
Shake
Continue until you see a slight pooling on top of the cartomizer or until you get a drop or two from the bottom of the cartomizer.
Wipe off and vape.
Very thick e-liquid, let sit 15 minutes or so and see if you can add more liquid.

Top often with more e-liquid. The burnt taste is usually because the cartomizer needs more e-liquid.
