This used to happen to me with analogs, too. Dry mouth, post-nasal drip, and a sore throat that felt like I'd swallowed a golf ball halfway and got it stuck. My lymph nodes would swell, too. That usually meant I'd overdone the smoking the day before.

With vaping, I've only felt that way twice - both times I forgot to drink extra water, and it went away about an hour after I hydrated properly again. I think it might be dehydration-related.

I just got a 510 myself and started vaping. One thing I've noticed is you have to take longer draws on an ecig than an analog. For me that means take a 2-3 second drag on the ecig as opposed to the shorter puffs I used to take on an analog. I think as an analog smoker, you tend to smoke quicker, trying to get as many puffs in as you can before it burns itself out. It tends to be less harsh (for me anyway).

I have to ask, why are you using the 0 nic stuff? I know some use it before bed, or use it as a cutter for higher strength stuff - but you shouldn't be doing this if you don't NEED the nicotine.

Just curious.

I think this part of what you said is key. It is obviously not nicotine that is causing this, I think the question is, what did you use to make your own juice? A small number of people discover that they have an allergy to PG. In this case, many switch to VG and find their problems go away. If in fact you were using PG in your home brew, try ordering some premade VG juice from a reputable vendor and see what that does for you. I suppose it could also stem from the flavoring(s) you used, so try something completely different.

I once had a bar of soap that had real cinnamon in it. I have never had a problem with cinnamon anything in my life, but when I used this soap, I broke out in a rash. Eating cinnamon still does not bother me, but I have refrained from any cinnamon flavors of juice, just in case it would cause me a problem.

So, if the flavoring is a concern, maybe get yourself some unflavored juice too (many places sell it), and see what that does. You can always add some flavor to experiment if you find that the straight unflavored (PG or VG) doesn't cause you issues.

Dehydration is definitely a bigger issue with vaping than most people realize I think. Heck, it's a bigger issue without factoring in the drying effects of vaping. Thirst actually doesn't kick in until you are already mildly dehydrated, and we lose approximately 10 cups of water per day just through respiration and normal activities.

That being said, there is definitely some kind of upper respiratory going around, in my section of the country at least. My younger son brought it home last weekend and he quickly passed it to the rest of the family. It has pretty much the same problems that the OP is describing, plus later symptoms can include a stuffed up head, itchy cough and possible chest tightness. I've even got a full feeling in my ears. I've switched back to menthol juice for the time being and upped my fluids yet again. Figure I'll be growing gills before much longer. :D

For me it is way more about the oral fixation and the hand-to-mouth action than it is about the nicotine so the 0 nic stuff is fine for me. Also I don't think I am affected by it as much as some people. Same goes for caffeine too.

Agreed... You shouldn't be using an e-cig if you are not addicted to nicotine and need an alternative. Honestly I'm going to take a good guess that your throat hurts because you're not used to smoking, your lungs aren't "conditioned" so to speak, as a smoker's lungs are. When a heavy smoker switches to vaping, it's almost like it's taken a huge load off of their lungs. Just my :2c:

It's good that you are using 0 nic though.

I'm going to have to agree here. Although it's possibly a combination of dehydration and just not being "conditioned" to smoking/vaping. If you are not a smoker, you really shouldn't vape though. However, if you smoke when you drink, the 0mg is actually a good idea(better than analogs anyway). Maybe you should only vape if you are drinking. :toast:

The 0-nic vaping tangent threw me into rant mode.

Short version:

Those of us who smoke/d chose to smoke. Most smokers I know can get pretty defensive about their right to make that choice. Those of us who vape chose to vape, and many of us will sign petitions and write letters and call congressional types to defend our right to make that choice, too.

So why on Earth would we criticize Mirror Darkly for making one of those choices, and by all common sense and current knowledge the safer and wiser of the two? I'm not going to proselytize vaping to non-smokers, but I'm not going to criticize any vaper who's already made a decision, no matter their reasons or history.
