Burnt Taste: How do I remove it from my E-cigarette?

I have a Kangertech Evod E-cigarette and keep getting a burnt taste. How do I remove the burnt taste? I keep changing the atomizer, or "Heating Coil" I think is the correct term. I have also been cleaning where the battery makes contact. I am relatively new to e-cigarettes and must admit that I know little about the maintenance. Can anyone help?

I should have been more specific. I have An EVOD E-cigarette. I am just a beginner at this. I have been buying these at a local smoke shop. The smoke shop puts their name on it "UN-DUN" in West Lebanon, NH 03784. On the box and the User Manual it says "Euphoric EVOD" as well as UN-DUN. I just made an educated guess that the manufacturer was Kangertech after doing some web searching.

What I called the atomizer in my post I think is actually called the "Heating coil". The wicks are part of the "Heating coil". The only way I can change the wick is by changing the entire "Heating coil".

What did you mean by dry burn? There is no power or voltage adjustment on my E-cigarette.

The recent burnt taste issues have been coming after changing the Heating Coil (which has the wicks attached).

Previously, after changing Heating Coil, when I screwed the e-cig back together, the gasket would make a very tight connection and would loosed the Heating Coil as I tightened it. This would cause the burnt taste because I think the "juice" would leak under Heating Coil. Then I had to unscrew it, tighten the Heating Coil, then screw the whole unit back together. However, I do not think the burnt taste is being caused by this issue now.

Make sure that once you install your new coil that you prime it.

With my e-cig there is a Heating Coil that has a pair of wicks on one side. The other side is what comes in contact with the battery (I think). Anyway, I screw this Heating Coil onto the battery unit. Is that when I do a dry burn, before I screw the whole assembly onto the other half of the e-cig containing the tank?

Hi Dayhiker,

A couple of things you can try. In my experience, those EVOD tanks don't wick very fast. Lots of draws in a short period can easily result in a burnt taste.

1. When you unscrew your tank, have a look at the atomizer head, you'll see two little ends of wicking material sticking out there. Put a drop of liquid on each end give them a little prod (not too much to pull out the wicking stuff, or it'll flood and gurgle, and you'll lose the head - made that mistake myself, ha)
2. Before you vape on a new atomizer head, let the tank sit in the juice for a good fifteen minutes.
3. Avoid high VG juices. These are thicker and the little EVOD tanks can't wick them quickly enough.
4. Take a few priming puffs, that is, suck a few times without holding the button to bring more juice into the wicking material before taking your proper hit.

Also, I found the heads vary greatly in performance. Some are a loser draw, some wick well, some don't. It's a bit hit and miss imo.

Number four drove me over the edge - it became annoying, especially with thicker, darker juices. It was time for an upgrade. If you can't, or don't want to though, the above should hopefully help a little bit.

Edit - above assumes you're talking about this:

Best of luck!

How do you prime it? Please have patience with me. I'm a beginner.

I think Salt means that you should take a few drags without pressing the button first, this will help to pull liquid into the coil. Another thing you might want to try is to pull the chimney(air tube) off the coil assembly and see if there are any flavor wicks sitting on top of the coil, if so, take one out, that'll allow more liquid to be able to get to the coil.

To prime it, you need to take a few pulls (suck on it) before firing your battery. This will pull liquid into the wick and ensure that it's drenched with enough liquid to keep it from scorching when the coil fires. You should always do it after installing a new coil/wick, and it often helps to do it periodically while vaping.

Previous burning can accumulate a burnt flavor within the clearo itself that usually can be washed out. You may be burning every coil though.

What is needed is proper calibration of the battery voltage to the atomizer coil. I find the Kanger 1.8 and 2.2 ohm coils, or the generic coils, require a battery with voltage reduction capability, or a weak battery (crappy or about to shut off). The 2.5 ohm may do OK on an unregulated, noncontrollable battery or the 2.2 when rewicked with cotton. The 1.8 burns above 3.4 volts, generics maybe 3.5V, 2.2 ohms are good around 3.7V. A fully charged battery is 4.2, typ. 3.9, drops rapidly after 3.7V. The difference between adjustment from, for example, 3.3 to 4.2 volts may not sound very large (27% increase), but as power changes at the square of voltage, the increase is actually 62%. This is not the only thing that exaggerates the effect, either. Vape style also has effect -- the numbers I listed accommodate almost anything you can throw at it, although may still need occasional rest.

P.S. you can definitely get good results from these, very good for the (uninflated) price.
