I just purchased an Buck Naked Express starter kit. With every other hit or so I get this burnt plasticky taste. Previous to purchasing this set up I was using the small 410 battery with a clearomizer and never experienced this issue. Is it possible that i got a bad tank? The hardware does look a bit crooked inside the plastic. Please help, I'm new to this, and have been smoke free for one month thanks to vaping!!

not sure of quality but not a bad kit ($$)

but my point is be SURE to allow wicks to get enuff wet fluid
dry burnt taste comes from pushing fire button, drawing air thru it when dry
it's called 'wicking' and it all depends on how good your system works
and you should be able to tell -- don't run it dry, allow it to recover ;)

Could be a number of things. A lot of the starter kits come with lower quality clearomizers that simply don't work as well as better ones. Even the same type of clearomizer (in this case it looks to be a CE-4) comes in varying degrees of quality. If you're using a thick juice you may also have trouble wicking in a clearomizer like that.

Thank you so much! I'll make sure of that and I may just go buy myself a new tank

Are you looking for something rebuildable? The CE4's are a good option, but you have to get them from a reputable vendor and they aren't rebuildable, so when they're dead, they're dead. The CE4's are something we recommend to new vapers at our shop when they need something simple to quit smoking. When it doesn't work you just trash it and get a new one, and that works out great for most of our beginners. Eventually, if they stick with it, they want to step up to something where they can replace the wicks instead of buying a whole new clearomizer every few weeks. When I was using clearos my favorites were the Kanger T2 and the Kanger Evods, the coils are easy to replace on both and I felt like a got a good consistent vape out of them.
But to answer the question about possibly getting a bad tank, it's completely possible. All of the clearomizers that you buy are going to be made in China, and the quality control standards are pretty suspect. When we order CE-4s at our shop, we usually get 1 out of every 6 or so that is DOA.

Hi Shoebz,

Congratulations on making a new friend. I remember how frustrating these things can be. You are using a Vision style clearomizer and they do have some quirks to them. The wick material varies by manufacturer as does the actual construction of the head. What I found was that I had to do the "twirl" with some of them. Hold the device upside-down and swing it in a circle after filling it. Press the button a couple times while you do that. This 'primes' the coil and helps eliminate any leftover oil and such from manufacturing (likely the source of the foul plastic taste). You may have to do this more than once depending on the juice you're using. Some thicker juices just don't work well with these style clearomizers. If that's the case, try one of the bottom coils, you can tune them a little easier and you will always have juice on the wick (contributing to the dry, burnt taste is the lack of liquid under the coil).

I agree with the others, the source makes the difference. I like Vision genuine products in this style and I've tried Smok and others. In this style Vision wins. For the ViviNova style, Smok wins. For the bottom coils, Kanger wins. The point is, each style has its best-in-class manufacturer. And even then, given the size of the production runs, you can end up with a rare dud.

Good luck and Vape On!

Sounds to me like your having wicking issues--if you leave the tank for a bit and vape it--does the flavor improve and get worse if you vape it more than once? If it does it sounds like a wicking problem.
Try a few dry pulls and see if that helps(inhale without firing the batt to prime the wick)
Also the plastic taste can sometimes be removed by boiling the tank in water for a few minutes.
