True - I also think single coils are less likely to gunk up with sweet juices.A lot of the time smok crams to many small coils in there and if you don't spend a week breaking it in you short 2 of the six or whatever and the coil sucks
Twisted coilAgreed on building own coils. This is my third coil that I built last night after getting a coil-building kit yesterday. I don't know what it's called (other than "a coil") - but it's two kanthal strands twisted around each other.
Gives a lot of flavor, even at low watts.
Wire and cotton are almost free and the kit, with an RTA, and an 18650, were under $70 shipped. I figure it will pay for itself in a couple months. Plus it's actually fun winding coils and experimenting with how they affect flavor, etc.

I probably go through 10 ml a day. A couple tanks. I also vape pretty sweet juices
