*sigh*..... Yet another smok related issue lolz
Little bit of advice : poke some holes in the juice flows of your coils, one on top one at the bottom. Usually that single thing fixes dry/burnt hits on smok's coils. That's of course if you have it again or if you didn't already know by searching around here lolz.

I've been priming them hard core, putting a few drops on the cotton before putting the tank back together and filling up. Never had a problem with them, except in the V8 stick which I just about give up on already!! probably just me!

You can't warm the coils up in the V8, so I think the v8 will always be a problem where that's concerned. Coils do better when you can slowly warm them up to wattage when a new coil is first vaped.

Personally, I don't like that v8.. but that's me - I think it shoots the wattage too high for the coil..

When you start using a new coil, after priming, sitting a while, and unpowered draw, start at a low wattage and slowly work your way up until you're happy with the vape. The "recommended wattage" is about as useful as "I know I left my keys somewhere in the solar system". If a factory coil range is engraved as "30-70W" I'd start at 10 W, no vapor but that's ok. Go up a few watts at a time (without chain vaping it) and stop when you've your sweet spot. It might be 25W (which does not mean the coil is bad) or it might be 50W. It's a simple method of getting your new coil off to a nicely smooth wicking coil and getting some decent life out of it.

Normal? No. Uncommon? Unfortunately, also no. Be sure to prime. Poke and fluff the wick with a needle. Beware cheap knock-off coils. And after having done all that, be certain you'll still get a bad box of 'em every now and again. Not necessarily a Smok problem. It's not uncommon across the industry. This is the basic reason I started building my own coils back in the dark ages. Welcome to the board.

Most of my Nautilus BVC coils taste a bit "off" the first few puffs after priming. It's kind of a "plastic-y" taste but it's really not at all comparable to a dry hit. Usually takes my first tank to get things flowing well and the coil fully broken in, I kind of baby it until then. And yes, I do prime my coils thoroughly. And yes, I do get the odd "bad" coil here and there, no factory coils are perfect....
