What kind of device are you using? How long have you been vaping on the coils?
Most of my experience comes from Kanger tanks. If you start getting a burnt taste and you've been using the same coil for a while, it's probably just gunked up. You can replace it, or you can do a number of things to try and clean it.

Many people swear that soaking it in vodka or another grain alcohol will clean it out. Some people boil them and then rinse them. I simply run mine under the hottest water I can get. I even use the sprayer on my kitchen sink and spray it down hoping the gunk will rinse away.

If it still tastes burnt after trying to clean, you just need to replace it.

There are going to be more responses here with different suggestions on how to clean them. And there is also the possibility of rebuilding it with new wire and wick. This wasn't for me, I did give it a good try, though. The only thing I do that is close to rebuilding is replace the top wicks.

I hate coils. It's the only part of vaping that gives me grief. But I find it's easier and less stress on me just to replace them as needed. I keep the used ones in a jar and occasionally will take all the dirty coils and give them a good wash all at once.

I buy my replacement coils at DiscountVapers - Your source for savings on electronic cigarettes and accessories, Go-go eGo, vGo. It's the cheapest I've been able to find them. I get 3 packs at a time. Of course, I am talking about replacement coils for Kanger ProTanks/EVODS. So if you are using something different, not sure about that.

Good luck!

I am so sorry guys... I am using a bottom fed Kanger EVOD tank/coil system... I do have extra coils; I am just not sure the coils are bad; I ran out of juice in one that's when I noticed the 1st burned taste. Basically, I am wondering if I can clean everything out and rinse the wicks (saw a video on YouTube) and if that will take care of the burnt taste... Or is that how you tell your coils are going is that burnt taste; seems more of a wick issue than coil, but I know very little.

I've found that about 80% of the time burning is caused by a faulty head that has too little resistance. If you think your head is 2.4 ohms but it is really 1.8 ohms and you're vaping a high pg based juice, you're going to have burning problems. Everyone should have a good variable voltage battery with an ohm checker and 80% of the burning problems will be solved.

Try soaking them in vodka for a while, then rinsing them thoroughly. You can replace the wicking material with silica or cotton if you feel comfortable getting that involved.

Re-cleaned, re-wicked, or brand-new....just make sure they are well-primed with liquid before trying to vape them.

With cleaning, my Kanger coils last a few weeks.

I saw something about the vodka thing before as well. I will try cleaning them and see how it goes. Like I said, I am still new at this so just learning and there is soooo much info here and elsewhere. What do you mean by "well-primed with liquid"?
Not sure I am comfy with rebuilding coils or wicks at this point; just cleaning...

sounds like what happened is you let the wick go dry and it burnt

if your not into rebuilding the coils yet, try soaking them-rinsing them-allowing them to dry

meanwhile install a new coil and be careful... :)

watch more videos ;) good luck

Just make sure that after you clean the wicks and coils you let the liquid get in there and saturate into the wicks. With my PT2 I usually wash with hot water, let it dry for a good while, then drop some juice right on the wicks with the tube still off. Fill the tank, let it sit for about 15 minutes and vape away.

I assume that the dropping the juice on and letting it saturate is the "priming" someone else mentioned?
