*If ECF mods deem this inapporpriate, then by all means take it down. If it seems helpful, then let's figure this out together.*
Hello ECF commuity! I've been searching around and have found all sorts of explanations for BURNT TONGUE (NOT vaper's tongue, which is easily remedied), but no clear cut answers. There're lots of theories and concepts, and a lot of them make sense, but I've never really seen anything with evidence/research/statistics.
A little about myself - I'm been here and there in the ECF community, been vaping for almost 8-10 years now and a hardcore believer in vaping as a (safer) alternative from smoking. I am a M.D. and believe in evidence based medicine. That's it. I don't want any stalkers, please.
WHAT IS THIS THREAD ABOUT
Finding a clear explanation to what causes and/or aggravates burnt tongue.
WHAT IS BURNT TONGUE?
Burnt tongue is NOT whole tongue inflammation (e.g., Geographic Tongue, autoimmune disorders, etc). Burnt tongue is NOT vaper's tongue (inability to taste flavors temporarily, easily remedied - drink lots of water, change flavors, mouth wash).
Let's be clear to who this is for - For our sake, let's define Burnt tongue as only a small portion of the tongue that is in pain, which may or may not have sores/inflamed papillae/ulcers that tends to be aggravated by vaping. Increase in vaping will have a direct correlation with the pain in your tongue. It comes and goes every once in a while that is noticeably related to vaping.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Include this info in your post:
1. %PG / %VG
2. Nicotine dosage
3. Atomizer Resistance
4. Voltage setting
5. Flavor
6. # Extra flavor shots added (0 if nothing additional was requested)
7. Organic or Non-organic eLiquid (majority out there is non-organic)
8. mL of eLiquid vaped per day (approximate)
9. Pain level (1-10). 1 - Barely wince at the pain. 10 - Fetal position, crying pain.
10. What % of your tongue is in pain? (approximate)
11. In a few words, describe the pain. Sharp? Dull? Localized? Radiates? Dry?
12. During the course of the day, when is it worst? Morning/Afternoon/Night
PLEASE, DO NOT INCLUDE (go ahead and start another thread if you wish)
1. Your thoughts about causes of burnt tongue (e.g., PG vs VG, high nicotine content, flavoring)
2. Any identifying information. Keep everything in your post anonymous, we wouldn't want to hurt any specific vendors out there. Sure, names of flavors may give it away, but let's please be civil and keep out company names.
3. Arguing, barraging, opinions, etc etc... this ECF community is very bright and very opinionated. Very. But if we can keep the posts to the 12 items I am requesting for, it'll be much easier to compile info and help us towards the right direction.
4. Any remedies that you tried or know of and may or may not work. That's not what this thread is about.
I'm sure a lot of you are thinking this is a flawed little experiment, very bias, and not done under the right circumstances. Some of you might actually see what I'm trying to do here. Specially if you've experienced burnt tongue related to vaping. Personally, I don't care
but it's great to be a part of a very intelligent and questioning community. Yes, it's very subjective, but we have to work with what we have. I simply want to help the vaping community (and myself) figure out how to minimize, perhaps eliminate, burnt tongue from vaping to make the vaping experience much more enjoyable.
Cheers & Vape on!
