So I've been vaping since November 2011. I vape 3ml a day - give or take. When I first began vaping, my tongue started getting slick patches and would burn. After a while, it went away on its own and everything was great. Recently, It has started again, but this time it won't go away completely. I assume that I am dealing with Geographic Tongue from the research I've done on the web. If you've never heard of it, feel free to do a Google search on it and look at the pics. Yep - that's what my tongue looks like. I'm so tired of having a burning sensation on my tongue. It feels similar to when you've burnt your tongue on hot coffee or tea. It also messes with my taste buds.

I'm to the point where I am considering quitting vaping and going back to analogs. I don't want to. I LOVE vaping. Like I said, I vape about 3ml a day. I vape Goodejuice's Patriot Blend almost exclusively at a nicotine strength of 18mg.

Has anyone else out there experienced this problem? If so, what did you do to fix it. From everyhting I've read, there's really no cure or remedy for Geographic Tongue, so I guess I'm just going to have to quit vaping.

I've decided that the problem lies either in the PG, the VG, or the nicotine. Problem is, I can't figure out which of those ingredients is the problem. I've tried other juices and other PG/VG blends, lower nicotine, Biotene Mouthwash and Toothpaste...but nothing seems to help.

I'm at the end of my rope here. Any input would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Aaron.

Geographic tongue can be caused by a number of things so I first suggest seeing a doctor in order to rule out an underlying condition that might be causing it. Keep in mind that correlation does not mean causation, that is, the fact that two things appear to be linked by time of onset doesn't necessarily mean that one has caused the other.

That said, geographic tongue has been associated with zinc deficiency as well as vitamin B deficiency. You could try chewable zinc tablets but allow them to just dissolve in your mouth instead of chewing them and a liquid sublingual vitamin B complex. I believe Walmart carries both of those or you could try an online supplement store such as Vitacost.

You might also try Ecopure Regular, which is a very mild tobacco-flavored 100% VG juice. If that doesn't help, then I would try pure USP grade VG without any nicotine which is available from a number of sites that carry DIY juice supplies (e.g., Ecomix or Vaping Zone).

If you're using high voltage or LR attys/cartos, I would also try turning the heat down, so to speak. I'd also try cutting down your nic level by at least half.

I hope this helps, keep us posted.

Hope the zinc has helped or you have gotten it see a physician. Its possible you have thrush. It can definitely hurt and makes you feel like you need to swallow a lot. It can also make the areas bleed and acidic foods burn rather badly. The corners of your mouth tend to crack too. It's just one of the lovely things that can happen if the oral mucosa is not kept wet enough or if something else is causing the normal things growing in there to get out of balance. It's definitely something you would want a prescription for too, over the counter stuff just doesn't work well enough. If it is thrush keep in mind that as those cells die your mouth may feel worse for a couple of days so don't think its not working. I hope it is something that simple or you already feel better. Good luck.

UPDATE: Well, I went out and bought some B-12, zinc lozenges, and also some Hygrogen Peroxide. Of those 3, the Hydrogen Peroxide seems like it is working. I have been gurgling with it every evening and morning. Burns like a motor scooter, but it seems to be doing the job. My tongue seems like it healed overnight!! It's still not perfect, as there are a couple of small sore spots, but it's way, way better. Thanks for all of the input. I hope this is temporary, and not something I'll have to deal with on an ongoing basis. I'll update in a couple of weeks...just in case there's someone out there that might be dealing with this in the future. Aaron.

I have some health issues, and have always had difficulty with borderline thrush, oral ulcers, etc. I started using biotene mouth rinse instead of alcohol based mouthwash about 15 years ago, discontinued after about 2 years, and had no problems until I started vaping. When I started vaping, I was getting very sore in the mouth, and stopped with the alcohol based mouthwashes or water them down half and half, and use biotene when my mouth starts to feel tender. It is a bit thic, so you have to be prepared for that, but it is amazing and great for treating the dry mouth I get since I switched to vaping too. Definitely see a doctor, but in the meantime, the biotene will definitely increase your comfort levels.
