Hi everyone, My name's Della, I'm 18 and I want to buy an ecig for my mom. She's a longtime closet smoker, I didn't even know she smoked until I put the 2+2 together a few years back, not long after she landed in the hospital for about a week due to complications with smoking. (combo of asthmatic bronchitis triggered by years of smoking) She quit, but the clues have resurfaced and she's back to closet smoking.

So, now that I'm in college and working part time, I have a bit of spare change and I'd like to surprise her with one of these and *hope* that it sticks. After reading around the forum, I'm probably going with the kr808 suggested by mistressnomad- that thread was very helpful!

My question to you, I know the cartomizers come prefilled, but I can't find what flavor they are. What flavor are they filled with, and what flavors do you suggest for a reluctant newbie? Do you have any tips/advice for selling my mom on this?
Approaching her about the fact that I know she's smoking will be awkward enough, I don't know if she knows anything about E-Ciggs, but she generally likes technology and new gadgets, so I'm hoping she'll like the idea.

Thanks! :)

You know, I bought kits for all 3 of my sisters. None of them still use the 510's I bought. I have, however, converted 2 ex-girlfriends, several co-workers, the bosses wife, etc.... all by example. They see me doing it, knowing how hard-core of a smoker I was, get curious, start asking questions... and before you know it, they're asking me what to get, how to use them...

I'd suggest maybe talking to her about the fact that "you know", then tell her that you found an alternative that might work for her. If she's really a "techie" type, she's doubtlessly online. I'd be surprised if she hadn't already googled "electronic cigarette" more than once... but probably just got hyped up ads for incredibly overpriced junk. Turn he on to the forum, hell show her this post... it might be a good way to break the ice on letting her know that her secret isn't exactly secret. Show her MisstressNomad's videos:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-videos-newbies-particular-broke-newbies.html

...then tell her if she thinks she'd be willing to give it a shot, you'll spring for her first kit. Let her do her own research, ask her own questions, and when she finally gets a decent PV, she'll be into it, you know?

P.S. In answer to the flavor question, they can be just about anything you want. The prefilled carts/cartos are generally pretty foul, you're better off getting blanks and filling them yourself. Most noobs insist on something that "tastes like a cig", are disappointed by the fact that none of the 'baccy flavors are exactly like a cigarette, but surprised at how damn good the other flavors are.

I'd suggest half tobacco flavors, half others. Lots of small (3-5ml samples) of different flavors to start with, so odds are she'll find one she really loves... then get a snotload more of that one.

Thanks for the great advice =D

She's online, but she spends most of her time playing face book games, she doesn't surf much other than that. She likes gadgets like smart phones, robotic floor cleaners, etc, so this feels like a good fit =]

I found what looks like a great deal, especially for someone trying new flavors: 6 prefilled disposable cartomizers, all different flavors including tobacco and menthol (she smokes newport) for 1.79. It says they're 510 cartomizers, will that work with the ecig I'm looking to buy?

Are all prefilled cartomizers bad, or just starter kit ones?

Thanks =]

Those look like 1.79 each... I buy blanks at 1.80 (5 pack for $9). If they're loaded here in the States, they could be decent or not... these look ok, but there's no way I can vouch for them.

The 510 is a model and also a threading type, and it's not compatible with the KR808. The ego, however, is a 510 threading PV, so these cartos will work on the model 510, or an ego, or most mods. All of my stuff is 510... it's the most common threading type, so gives you the most options on suppliers, upgrades, etc. BTW, the ego kit on this site is a pretty good price, but you'd want another atomizer with it or more cartos. Check out cignot.com, vaporjunction.com, and madvapes.com. I've ordered from all of them and can attest to their quality and service.

Generally, the carts that come with kits are going to suck. Prefilled cartos are something I've never used; I switched to cartomizers after I started mixing my own liquids, so I've always ordered blanks. I've also never ordered from valuevapor, but their prices seem pretty darned good.

A lot of noobs get really hung up on the size of the unit, wanting something that's just like a cigarette in every way... most eventually realize that none of that matters if it works, and upgrade quickly to an ego, riva (an ego clone, 510 threading), or somesuch... but often it takes that first cig-sized unit to convince them that vaping is the real deal and works. You might want to take a longer look at the 510 or an ego-type, since the other parts will be compatible with a lot of different models later on.

On looking at that site further, their prices are really good. The Dekang juice they sell isn't the greatest, but it's not terrible, and the prices are quite reasonable. If I were placing a first-time order there for a newbie friend, I'd get the ego kit, an extra Bauway atomizer for it, about 5 cartomizers (prefilled, different flavors), 10 blank cartridges, and 4 or 5 of those 10ml bottles of juice in different flavors. Maybe some blank cartomizers, too.

Just my 2 cents. That'd be under $100, or about the price of 2 cartons of smokes.

I'm with Hiaram, you should get her an ego/riva/tornado etc. The larger battery really makes them worth while.

E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings This site offers a 20% discount, prices are very good. Since your mom is a facebook gamer you might want to buy her the ego pass through and some atomizers. The pass through comes in many different colors for 'cuteness' factor. You might want to also buy her a cone for the pass through under Atomizers & Cones EM Riva 510. Pretty sure the vapor flavors they sell here will be a good quality juice.

Good luck finding that perfect one to give her, stay away from small kits, the batteries die so fast for anyone that is a moderate smoker.

Look for a menthol + tobbaco! That's important. I just got started doing this myself and bought far too much menthol. After a few days I felt like I'd been vaping nothing but breath mints. I had to keep using analogs until I got some more juice.
I've gotten good small samples from Velvet Vapor, & Juicy Vapor. Get some other flavors besides tobacco & menthol.
The prefilled carts are pretty nasty but you'll probably get 1 free box included with your kit.
They'll probably be from China.

If you get an kr808 you need kr808 carts, the 510's don't fit . Litecigusa has a decent price on blank carts. Order at least 1 box.
KR808D-1 Cartomizers
Lots of sites have gift certificates as well. You could buy her a starter kit and she could use the gift certificate to buy what her self what she think she might like.

Woops, gave that a quick look without reading closely, still a great price.
Great links! Thanks so much!
I nabbed my mom while she was getting ready for work this morning, just flat out told her I was thinking about getting her an E-Cig, at first she was just dumbstruck but after a few minutes of akward silence I showed her some of the videos and she said a while back she got (probably spam) mail about an Ecig free trial that looked interesting, but too sketchy to risk. So she definitely wants to give it a go =D

Both madvapes and vaporjunction have great 510 kits with two cigs, but they're both out of stock :( I think I have a better idea what to look for though, thanks!!!

This Riva kit looks good, 10 blanks and two cigs $50, and its in stock, which is a huge plus =P
She said something about how the E-cigs i showed her looked weird, I think she was imagining the ecigs that come in cartons just like regular cigs- could I buy a case like that separately to fit some of the models I'm looking at?

...and what flavors do you suggest for a reluctant newbie?

The cartos in the simple box labeled "Disposable Atomizer" are a close cousin to Marb Lights (UPC 6937281000150) or as I describe it dirty dish water. Pics in this thread. While I found the flavor to be a tad on the vile side, it did address my urge for a cigarette, which is the important thing.

My favorite thus far is Johnson's Creek Tennessee Cured which is available from their sample pack (18mg/ml only), followed by their VG Valencia Orange mixed with a dash of Fire~N~Ice from Juicy Vapor. Fire~N~Ice is as potent as mixing a cinnamon Altoid with a Peppermint one.

Liberty Flights has a starter kit called the Riva Lite Bundle for 30.00. The Riva is the same as the Ego but made by a different company. If you go to their site just be sure you click the 20% off tab in the upper left hand corner so the discounted price shows up. Vapor4Life stocks a kr808 that is called a Vapor King. They have tons of prefilled cartomizers in lots of flavors that will fit the kr808. Most of them have good flavor. The kr808 is a 2 piece e-cig and it is very simple to use but needs recharging pretty often. The smaller the battery the shorter the life of the battery. The Riva has a longer battery life but it is a bit heavier than the k4808 and fatter. Both are good options for the beginner.

I agree. the best two options are either the Riva lite bundle (less expensive, works great, long battery life, fatter battery) or the KR808d-1 (smaller, shaped like a cigarette, easy to use, best if you get the charging case with it - and the charging case is pretty dang cool).

You can get the Riva lite bundle at Liberty Flights (remember to click for 20% off).

Get the KR808d-1 a few places. I might get the actual e-cig at litecigusa same with the charging case(unless she want's the colorful options at vapor4life, same product they just have more colors available), and the cartos at vapor4life (coupon code "smilin"). It'll save a bit of money that way and the vapor4life cartos are pretty tasty.

Wicked-510 TITAN E-NIC (Electronic Nicotine Imitation Cigarette)PINK

Does anyone have any thoughts on this website/product?
It sounds great!

Keep in mind that you, or your mom rather, will be replacing batteries down the road, as well as atomizers. As such pink would be a bit problematic. Not impossible though, you'll just be limited to mail order.

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

Looks like the eGo, the Riva, and the T-rex all have pink solutions, all of which accept 510 atomizers. The riva is the cheapest, under $40, but e-fluid is not included, the cartridges come empty. Long term cost on eGo style is far less since the recharge cycles are limited to about 300. Thus 750mAh at $20ish per represents a better value than 180mAh at ~10ish per.
