Does she even want one?

Get her a disposable to see if she's even receptive to the idea first.

Here's one at LiteCig with a charger and carts for $9.99.

Not a bad idea. But is it really a disposable if it comes with a charger? The disposables I've seen were ones that sell in casinos and convenient stores, precharged, no way to recharge them or change cartridges. Just use them until they quit and throw them away. Seems like a waste.

This one you found seems almost like a mini starter kit. You can barely buy a charger or a single batter for that price usually. If it works well, that's a great find.

Woops,
I nabbed my mom while she was getting ready for work this morning, just flat out told her I was thinking about getting her an E-Cig, at first she was just dumbstruck but after a few minutes of akward silence I showed her some of the videos and she said a while back she got (probably spam) mail about an Ecig free trial that looked interesting, but too sketchy to risk. So she definitely wants to give it a go =D
This Riva kit looks good, 10 blanks and two cigs $50, and its in stock, which is a huge plus =P
She said something about how the E-cigs i showed her looked weird, I think she was imagining the ecigs that come in cartons just like regular cigs- could I buy a case like that separately to fit some of the models I'm looking at?

Glad you talked with her and sounds like she is open to the idea of vaping. Based on this, I would also recommend the larger battery (Riva 510 or eGo). If she is coming out of the closet, she may find herself vaping more than she smoked. I say this for two reasons.
#1 - vaping delivers nicotine to the body differently than smoking
#2 - She no longer needs to hide in the closet

Both are reasons she would be using her e-cig more and a larger battery will give her good results.

Thanks for all the great advice, you guys are awesome!

I'm going to go with the Riva light on Liberty, it has 10 blanks and I'm getting a good mix of juices.
PG - 18mg of Fruit blend, Mango, and menthol/tobacco blend.
14mg of USA mix tobacco
VG- 18 MG of chester blend and pinapple
14 MG of coconut

all 5ml bottles, all for a grand total (including shipping) of 49.73 :D

If she has any lung problems I don't really recommend the Dekang juice. 100% PG lets through the most of nicotine's skin irritation and TH. A bottle is OK to start but even on 18mg the 100% PG juice made my throat sore and my tongue sore and numb. Most people prefer PG/VG blends from US juice mixers. 70pg/30vg is a good blend to try. Then if more TH is desired try 80pg/20vg, if less, try 50/50

Two best choices for a reluctant ecig user
Joye 510 or for heavy smokers Joye 510 with mega xl batteries (60% longer charge life)
KR808D-1 aka Vapor4Life with prefilled cartomizers and standard size batteries (same charge as 510 mega xl)

No matter which is used, everything needs juices. Prefilled cartos do not last as long as a pack of smokes - a person could use up 2-3 per day. We add juice to cartos to make them usable for 4-7 days. Joye 510 is atty+carts and needs juice more often and is a bit harder to use. I think most 510 owners end up using blank cartomizers on it.

Both have fat-battery upgrade paths for more longer charge life.

I recommend manual batteries for whatever you get because autos are more easy to kill with a juice leak and autos can accidentally turn on from wind or vibration.

If you want to try a disposable first - LiteCigUSA.net sells 510 and 306 disposables.

See if you can get her to register here, we'd love to hear from her :)

Great place to start! Make sure to use the 20% off button, and if they have the Boge 2ohm 510 cartomizers in stock, throw in a pack of those.

Her English isn't great, she speaks spanish so she probably won't end up on the forum, but I've learned A LOT and if things work out well with my mom, I have plans to mail disposable kits to family members to test =]
I can't thank you enough for all your help, it's greatly appreciated!:)

Oops, I forgot- One more question: Does anyone know how long Liberty usually takes to ship? I couldn't find an estimate anywhere.

Aw, you're such a sweet daughter!

LF takes me about 5 days but I'm clear across the country. Maybe a little less. Don't worry though, its a great company with a great warranty!!

Here's a big tip-- When your kit comes, go back a review everything you bought. For each review you get a 50 cent credit toward your next purchase.

I'm clear across the country too lol, but a 5 day wait would actually be perfect, I'm going back to school (I'm only half an hour away) sunday night, so they'd be arriving just in time for me to come home for the weekend and show her how to work it =]
And wow, that review incentive is great! That's almost two free juices, perfect for when she figures out what flavor she likes ;-]

It's funny, my dad was telling me how the whole reason she "closet smokes" is because when they first started getting serious he told her that if they had kids, she could never smoke in front of us, in hopes that we would never smoke- and it worked =P. So, I saw a pasion fruit flavor for DIY mixing, I <3 passion fruit, so I jokingly told my mom I was going to buy a no nicotine passion fruit flavor for myself, and I think I gave her a heart attack. Haha, better not bring up that idea again, I might turn her off to Ecigs all together

Good luck with your search, I was in a similar situation and bought a NJOY NPRO at a Pilot Station as it was the only place I could find an ecig locally. Wasn't too happy with that one, then tried the Bloog Maxx Fusion which I believe is a KR808D-1. It has been amazing, still has the overall cigarette look and feel and the prefilled carts have all tasted pretty good. Gives me the throat hit and tons of vapor similar to an analog.

Thanks for the great advice =D

She's online, but she spends most of her time playing face book games, she doesn't surf much other than that. She likes gadgets like smart phones, robotic floor cleaners, etc, so this feels like a good fit =]

I found what looks like a great deal, especially for someone trying new flavors: 6 prefilled disposable cartomizers, all different flavors including tobacco and menthol (she smokes newport) for 1.79. It says they're 510 cartomizers, will that work with the ecig I'm looking to buy?

Are all prefilled cartomizers bad, or just starter kit ones?

Thanks =]

Edit for link
510 Pre-Filled Cartomizers [510-Carto] - $1.79 : ValueVapor.com, Discount Electronic Cigarettes and e-Liquid

I ordered one of the cartomizers you linked to and was satisfied with the vapor it produces. I also bought an atomizer, battery, and E juice as well from this site. The products are interchangeable with other 510's as they state. The order shipped out right away. I Haven't opened the e-juice yet but the 510 atomizer I bought seems to produce a thick cloud of vapor for a 510, and it hasn't burned out yet. The battery does have an auto-shut-off mechanism that shuts off if you start chain vaping and, although this helps the atomizer last longer and protects the flavor from tasting burnt, if she's been a heavy chain smoker this could affect her satisfaction with it. For someone who wasn't a chain smoker this probably won't be as much of an issue. Hope this information helps you decide what to order.

The Disposable $15

The actual package differs, and these guys are my local dealer, so you might find a better deal elsewhere. It's your standard KR808-D1 and does come with at least a USB charger. Battery life seems okay, but I've not tried any other 808 battery. I'm not a big fan of Marl Bros flavor, but who ever does these cartridges got it right.

ETA: I continue to use this unit I bought last month. Thus far I've only lost one battery that was a direct result of me refilling with the cartridge on the battery. Bad move. I use this one for fruity flavors.
