Bypass battery?

I know there are pass thrus that I can buy for my Ego but I heard they don't work if there's no juice in the actual battery - implying that the battery still supplies the juice to the atty. If that's true is there a way to use external power via usb in some fashion to guarantee full power flows to the atty? I need a way to determine if and when my batteries are loosing performance.

Wow, didn't think this was a trick question. Maybe I'm a noob and the word "passthru" implies that the volatage is provided by the USB port. Still would like someone to confirm. Maybe someone needs to invent a "bypass" thru.

You get "full power" on a passthru. Also your batt is not dead it's just down to 40% when it shuts down. The do this by design.
