All, I recently got pulled into an argument on the whole cloning debate, specifically on the AC9 and the Smoktech RSST tanks. It's very clear to everyone that the RSST tank uses the same same design from the AC9, and one comment that keeps coming up against cloners is that it takes money away from the modders, and I'd like to test this hypothesis.

I personally own both, and while I don't like cloning personally for a number of reasons, including that I think it's wrong, that the quality is not as good, and important to me, that I'll be seen by others as cheap. I will also say that my first genesis was a CHID, and I hated it, but it didn't stop me from getting other genesis devices. Interestingly, I have never tried to get my hands on a real DID, and I believe that that wasn't helped by how much I disliked the CHID. Out of my entire kit, which is pretty much up to date in my signature, I have an EA Mod (GG Clone) and the RSST, everything else is original, and I truly believe that the RSST is not taking money away from the AC9, as people recognize the quality difference, and I am trying to keep reminding people that they do not "vape just as well" as they don't. The RSST is good, the AC9 is great.

Anyhoo, please honestly respond to the poll so that we can see some honest to god data on this, and please don't sabotage it just because you hate clones. I welcome any discussion you want to have about the redeeming qualities or sinful nature of cloning in here, though I don't care to be part of it, but I beg you not to skew the data just to justify yourself. If you want to, you can also post why you bought one or the other. I bought both at roughly the same time (RSST was ordered first via COOP, with plans to use it for my beater mod, AC9 was purchased when it became available, and is probably my favorite atty right now, but not trying to get it beat up and marred).

Thanks!

I could not justify any rebuildable for over $100. Thats just me. If the rsst works just as well as ghe ac9 i have no reason to spdnd that much. I drill a larger air for the rsst and it works and looks great on my ea mod. I just got the rsst and it right now is not my everyday just yet. Im still messing with my nimbus rebuildable with drilled bigger air holes and man. That thing is beast. Plus i wouldnt want to mod something that i spent $100 for. Drilling another hole maybe in the future trying 2 coils. No i hate my self if i did something like that. The same with the cobra. Very expensive gen attys. I have no problem buying china clones and expiramenting with those. Plus when i first started vaping it was to quit smoking. Now with interestcin mods and rda's its not so cost effective.

I have browsed over and would have ordered an AC9 at least 3 times but they were not in stock. I have ordered an RSST and may eventually order an AC9 as well.

While I have a bit of disdain for clones I welcome the competition. As I see it, the primary loss of sales for many original makers is the lack of stock. None of this stuff means so much to me that I will go to an extra effort above what is required to order something on Amazon. I'm sure there are negative comments to be made about that statement but I feel I am in a majority.

The other issue is that the original equipment makers could easily ramp up production if they wanted to do so. They could even partner with some of clone manufacturers to make the devices. After a brand has been established and as long as quality control is done there is no reason not to use the manufacturing power houses to produce stock.

Then again, if something is important enough to protect from cloning then there are legal ways to take care of that.

I personally don't own a AC9. I do own 3 Chobra clones, (what I started on), then went to a Zap for my Provari. Just got a RSST. IMHO the RSST is a good starter RBA to find out if you really want to try one or not. Not thrilled with the tank section or a few other things. I just got through drilling out the air hole to make it bigger. #59 drill bit. Made a big improvement IMHO. (I will admit that is strange to put the ZAP on a Blem Provari. That means the RBA cost more than the device did.). ;)

Can't imagine why, the internals are substantially the same (at least, the mechanics of setting up a wick and coil), so if you don't have issues with the RSST, you should have no issue with the AC9. I set up my wicks with Peter K method whenever possible, as I never have any troubles from them, and I set up both my RSST and now 2 AC9s with exactly the same specs, using thick solid wick and 3/4 of 28 gauge kanthal, which is around .8 - .9 - 1.0 ohms. Hope it gets better!
