November is the month for the 'Great American Smokeout' and I just had an idea.

Maybe we could ride cig nazi's coattails for a change by attaching a tagline to theirs.

I just thought of this 5 minutes ago, so I'm just tossing out my initial thought, but maybe something like:

Join the Great American Smokeout - Escape to the vape.

I've always hated the Smoke Out thing, so I'd love to turn it around on them.

Not sure how to get something like this going, but it would give us some positive PR and underscore that it's an alternative, not a cessation plan.

I brought this up several weeks ago (search it), and it received even less enthusiasm then, than what we are able to muster on this thread.
In fact, the same day this thread showed up, I reintroduced the idea on "the other place" hours before this one made the boards, and beyond a minor cry of "good idea" and a suitable title " G. A. Vape-in" by a few of the "regulars", the thread seems to have dwindled to the same ignominous fate as this one seems destined to.
Although a concerted effort to mass the "million vapers" onto the Washington D.C. Mall seems a bit grandiose in retrospect, the kind of media exposure that could result would be stupendous!! My fellow members at "the other place" countered with a reasonable alternative idea of simultaneous "vape-in(s)" at multiple Statehouses and other public spots, which seems maybe just a bit more realistic due to the degree that the lousy economy has affected us all.
Looking at my original suggestion now, it becomes pretty easy for me to understand that a majority of the vaping population would be hard pressed to travel to a gathering such as I outlined in my original post. But the idea of "many groups in many places" just might have a positive effect also, if it could be coordinated to occur simultaneously.
I think we have lost the ability to have this happen at the last week of this month so that it could coincide with the "smoke out" recognition week, but whats to say that, if some enthusiastic campaigners among us could get more cooperation -and- coordinated media coverage, that this really would make the "splash!" that we as a group are hungering for.
Fun, vaping, comraderie, positive? press, all in one short afternoon.
Whats not to like about that?
I wish it didn't keep sounding so much like a "pipe dream".

I like the idea too. Just read it today, and like it.

Escape to the vape. Love it!

MAYBE we could tie this into this thread....

Im working on a mass posting campain on Craigslist. Hopefully create a little positive buzz for us. Everyone WANTS to do something, and there's lots of great ideas.....but it seems none move forward.

Lets put this tank in gear, and let out the clutch!

How about this??

A Craigslist ad. We ask everyone to post in their respective area(s). Its a copy paste thing. Copy from here, go to Craigslist, and make a post.

Title: Great American Smoke Out - Escape to the Vape

Body:
Constantly rising prices of cigarettes getting to you? Do the health risks of smoking bother you? Worried you may not be able to smoke in public places?

Worry no more.

Electronic cigarettes are your answer! With an electronic cigarette, you may enjoy your nicotine fix, without the 4,000 some chemicals commonly associated with a tobacco cigarette. Electronic cigarettes are exempt from public smoking bans, so no more standing outside in the cold when you need a "smoke". Odorless, tarless, free from all the harmful carcinogens associated with traditional cigarettes.

Q: But I heard that there is bad stuff in those? Aren't they unhealthy?

A:NO. There was a concern that electronic cigarettes contain Propeline Glycol. Propeline Glycol is, yes, found in an electronic cigarette, but is also found in many things common around your house, hand sanitizers, gum, mouthwash, tooth paste, many food addatives, and cat food, and all are approved by the FDA. Also, the level of Propeline Glycol found in electronic cigarettes is far under the level determined to be safe for consumption.

Q:Well, why would the government try to say these are bad then??

A:Easy answer! Think about it. Why do your cigarettes cost so much? The government taxes the heck out of cigarettes. The goverment would lose out on BIG time funding if people like you and me all of a sudden switched to electronic cigarettes, and STOPPED buying tobacco cigarettes. This is why the government has stated that there is an unsafe ingredient in electronic cigarettes. As I said before, yes, there is Propeline Glycol contained in these. But it is safe amounts. In order to begin to be close to a harmful level, one would have to smoke over 350 packs worth a day.

I am an individual. I am not a company trying to sell a product. I purchased one myself, and love it!

Want one? Do a google search. There are plenty of models to choose from. Most are well under $100. I got mine for $26.

Hmmmm.. I like that. I really like that.

Our web clients are always looking for SEO tricks and one of the simplest ones I point out is to use competitors names and slogans in your alt tags, image names and keywords. When I worked for a local phone company, we named every graphic on our site "bellsouth004.jpg", etc.) and we rose to the top 5 in a search for "BellSouth" (Don't get too excited, it was 1996) WebOperations.net

There is nothing wrong with "riding the coattails" of the anti-smoking campaigns and IMHO, this will all become a battle in the trenches before it is over. FWIW, I certainly do not intend to pull any (legal) punches.

So JustMeAgain: How much are the T-shirts? I'd wear one to the bowling alley. Things will get interesting on December 1 when the statewide ban on indoor smoking goes into effect in Virginia.

I'm not selling t-shirts, but that's a great idea. Feel free to use the logo - It's in my photo album - I could make it bigger if you want.

An afterthought: What about putting the CASAA logo under the text?

I don't think I've seen a CASAA logo - is there one?

I like using their own ammo against them. Makes it much more enjoyable. :D

Guess it's just not going to catch on, though.

I nominate BigJimW (a charicature with hat and e-cig) to be the "poster guy" for the opposite side (and/or maybe a breast pocket icon) of the "official" "great to vape !" or whatever t-shirt.
He also deserves supporting votes on the association election.
Who else among the "big vapers" (beside T.- Bob) is so recognizable/ distinguishable?

Go BigJimW Go !! (and you too Tropical Bob) :D
