Can Adapters die?

I got my new adapter in. I think it was the combination of an adapter and switch gone bad. With the new adapter, when it fires, it hits like a truck. But id say about 50% of the time the atty wont fire. I've cleaned the plastic and housing, but I am not able to turn the posts because I don't have pliers atm.

well my adapters having the same issues but I didn't drop mine.

I'm just trying to believe in it and the unicorns!
