Can Burning Occur vs. Vaping?

With vaping mods, not e-cigs, can burning accidentally occur within the unit instead of vaporizing? I have a basic Kanger EVOD setup, and, before upgrading the tanks to Protank 2 Minis, I noticed that when the coil was getting really spent - particularly the coil, I'd taste a burnt taste, along with PLUMES of something which I think was more smoke than vapor... I also noticed the fluid in the tank would turn to dark brown. And then I also noticed that when this was going on, sometimes the adapter part between the battery and the tank itself (where the coil screws in), would get burning hot to the touch. I have friends that vape other sorts of non-nicotine products, and they frequently say that if the units are cheap or not used correctly, that burning occurs instead of vaping. Is this true for the kinds of units and fluids we use? Also, I noticed that what I described above doesn't ever occur anymore with the new Protanks ... It kept happening with the cheap, plastic tanks that came with the original EVOD kit. So yeah, anyway, I was just interested for the sake of personal edification... Was I witnessing burning? I'm not dealing with it anymore now that I've got better equipment, but just wanted to know for the sake of knowing and getting knowledgeable about vaporizing.

Anytime the coil does not get enough liquid on it, whatever remnants of previous liquid on it, (suspended solids, sweetener residue, etc.) gets over heated and essentially burns and produces that nasty hit we all despise. I dont know what studies may have been done concerning this, but it's the biggest potential for negative effects from vaping, at least as far as my ignorant opinion goes, and should be avoided whenever possible. Hopefully there will be a breakthrough at sometime concerning liquid feed to coils, but for now we just got to do our best to avoid the situation ourselves.

You already got a great answer from bacc.vap. Just wanted to add that burning can happen with the cheapest tanks and also the best and most expensive ones. Even if the hardware is perfectly designed and built, every coil will get 'gunked' up from the remnants of previously vaporized juice. The thicker that gunk becomes the more likely it is to start burning juice.

As soon as I taste burnt juice I stop vaping and fix it. It is not healthy to inhale that stuff.

Is the $109 Innokin iTaste worth the cost?

Not sure which product you're talking about... Could be the MVP, VTR, 134, SVD... The list goes on :p I'ma just say no tho. If you're gonna spend that much, either get a Provari for high ohm/low wattage setups (If you're not using rebuildables, this is what I would recommend, since there's no way any stock replaceable coil can handle 30-50 watts) or a DNA30 device/iPV2 (50 watts, also around the $100 mark). The DNA30 or better will give you more options in the future, if you ever decide to get into RBA's.

If you're REALLY set on one of those two devices, then you can find them for about half the price MBV is trying to sell 'em for. Hell, I'm pretty sure you could walk into your local B&M store and get a better price :p Again tho, if you're set on the low-wattage regulated devices, Provari is probably the way to go. Never used one so can't say for certain, but people here swear by them as the best regulated mod if you're not gonna need more than a 3.5 amp draw.

What the hell... You spend all this money on these and the first one doesn't even come with a battery or charger. The second one, or, well, both of them have tanks that can crack. I'd say my EVOD battery and Kanger Protank Mini 2 is better. It may not have all the VV, VW, LED light, "beauty ring," and other gadget-y type stuff, but at least it can take any flavor, lol :p

I agree... This HAS to be an overpricing issue... I usually buy all my stuff from MBV, but I don't buy my coils or tanks there because I can get them cheaper from places like Vapage.com

If you're spending that much money on a setup, I'm sure you can afford another $1 for a 510 -> ego threading adapter to use your evod on the new device :p Or just get crazy and buy a full size protank 2/3, or maybe even an aspire nautilus. As for batteries/charger not coming with your mod... That's pretty standard unless the battery is built in.

Honestly... Have you thought about just picking up a vision spinner? Ego threading, built in battery, variable voltage... And about a quarter of the cost of those mods.

There has been, it's called a REO. Bottom feeding changes everything.

Bro, I love my Reo Grand and RM2 and Cyclone so I know exactly where you're coming from

The OP is using regulated mods with Evods and then successfully upgraded to Protank 2 Minis. In my humble opinion, a Reo might be a bit premature in this scenario.

Please don't take this as snarkiness from me, I totally get it and the exposure to Reos is great. I just think it would be a huge leap in technology for her and she would still have to learn how not to burn juice :)

Rock on my friend!

Consider the Itaste SVD.... has a better power range ( 15 W) and can handle coils down to .8 ohms
Fasttech has them for around 40ish$ I have one and its my favorite

If you can wait a while, Innokin ( Itaste) is getting ready to release the SVD2

Didn't take it as snarkiness :)

I understand what your saying however the REO was originally designed for use with cartos. RBAs are a much more recent advancement, and IMO the way to go if one is inclined to rebuild, but you can get a perfectly good vape with a Mini and some good cartos.

Does it have tanks that crack though? I need a setup that has tanks that can take any flavor.

You can put any 510/ego tank on the svd. I would have the svd and an aerotank mega for my all day vape if I could afford it. Instead I use the itaste vv v3 and a protank 2.
On a side note the svd 2 will have higher power output then the current svd....using a DNA chip I believe...and it seems to be one proprietary to innokin, though the same power output as the DNA 20. Also won't be telescopic, which some don't like, but is a plus to me...i like the smooth body better.
