Sounds exactly like the problem I had with my Protege. It started with my very first attempt to use it. Initially, I thought it didn't work at all. Then I pressed the button so hard I left an impression in my thumb and it worked. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Then, it quit working entirely, no matter how hard I pushed the button. I finally gave up and sent the switch back to PS. They sent me a new switch and I haven't had that problem since (of course I'm knocking on wood right now). I bet you have a bad switch too. They'll send you a new one and everything will probably work great. Good luck!

I'm very frustrated with my batteries.........I think. I have like 10 14500 protected batteries I'm rotating. Can they ALL be bad? I just don't get this and I'm "curious" if it could be my switch. I'll put in a new battery, vape is okay for a while then it crashes within an hour or so and I have weanie vape and I have to keep putting in new batteries almost as bad as a standard 510. I know it shouldn't be this way, but it's constant. Most these batteries are really fairly new. Could this have ANYTHING to do with my switch? I just can't pop in a batty and enjoy my protege all day without constant frustration.

I did a search on this thread on "multi" and got no hits.

Have you tested the batteries out of the charger and when they get weak with a multimeter?

I got one of the first of the Proteges, and it worked for a few days then just quit. When I took the switch out it fell apart in my hand. I sent it back and it turned out I had one of the phenolic switches. I got the unit back fully repaired in about a week, and it's working great! Casey is so fabulous!!! Thanks Casey.
