just to ask againtho theres no way to fix the tact switch?if there is id try anything cos i gotta wait another week or 2 to get my protege working otherwise?will get some noalox(?) in the meantime...thanks for the tip : o)

ps. sorry for hijacking the thread : o(

Once the tact switch has died, it's dead, like the dead horse and you have to have it replaced.

You can buy the mech switch and install that yourself. Dead tact switches were one of the reasons that motivated the release of the mech switch.

All that said, making sure the tact switch is dead is the first thing to do. Take off the atty and stick your tongue on the adapter top and press the button. If it is working, you should feel that tingle on your tongue like you do when you stick your tongue on a 9v batt.

In a word, yes. I have done all of those things (save the part about contacting Steve or Casey) and more. The switch I can live with. The center-post I can live with. The USB adapter I can live with until it wears out. None are show-stoppers for me, I simply post my feelings so that others can take them into account and decide for themselves.

I think a reltatively small number of folks are having any issues at all, or else you would see quite an outcry within this sub-forum.

I love the form, weight, and (when working) how this thing puts out the vapor - so, I guess you could say, dispite the challenges I have with the protege, I still think it worth the money I spent.

I would have to totally agree with Daco on this also/

I would just contact them and have it replaced Dacoopah that way you dont have to mess with it and you are 100% happy with it. They (Steve and Puresmoker) are a great bunch and stand behind there products and want to make sure you are 100 % satisfied. Glad you liking it though it does put out some serious vapor and the TH and Flavor is great.

No problem Cass glad to help and hope you get it soon!!!!

I never had any problems with the tact switch. 3 months use. Ordered two mech switches just for backups. Use mech switch all the time as it delivers a bigger punch than the tact switch. Ordered the second mech switch because my first mech switch was really hard to push. Works good now though and easy to push, just had to break it in real good. Had to fiddle with the aluminum pins to get the old mech switch to fire consistently. New mech switches ship with the rubber o-ring above the contact disc so it's even easier to push now with no fiddling with aluminum pins.

They won't say anything in here Cass...
My sister got 2 bad tact switches. The second one she didn't know about until I sold it for her. The person that bought it found out.
I sold my Protege to a friend and out of curiosity I called him today to ask if he was still using it. Nope, he said the switch died about 2 weeks after he got it from me. He threw it away. It was 4 weeks old when I sold it to him so I guess that switch lasted about 6 weeks.

Have you taken it apart and cleaned it and twisted the posts inside so the round side is up on them. Also take a small exacto and clean around it.This does make a difference and can solve all your problems. Also these switches do have a break in period on them. If all else fails send Steve or Casey a PM and Im sure they would get a new one out to you. If you recieved yours early in the orders they were fixed as orders went out later on.
So you do all this AFTER paying $114.00 and waiting 2 weeks to get it?
I have 3 other mods I NEVER had to take apart and do anything to. Vaping them for 5 months now and they are still working perfectly AND they cost LESS than my PS units did.

Cass, my second mech switch is still enroute in the mail. Let it get here first and if it works good, you can have my tact switch for nothing. Just send me a pm so I don't forget that you've got dibs on it.

I really have no use for three switches if the two mech ones function just fine.

boomboom if this tact switch is a soldier and gonna work for me ill pay for it!!!haha it was a remark i didnt mean i wanted it for nothing...i hope you didnt take me up the wrong way!!!

my protege is still under warranty so its up to ps to get me a new one really.

might be handy to have one though so if you really have no need for it ill pay soething for it and shipping : o)

thanks for replying : o)

the new switches are great.
(make sure you maintain your protege) clean it, clean posts with brasso, ect.

I have a protege and new mech switch.
it was hard to press at first but it breaks in

I've had no issues.
Just make sure the contact posts are clear of plastic on the switch.
cleared mine and the botton was suddenly easier to press.
(it required the perfect amount of force....so it won't go off in your pocket of course)
(Where the botton is) read the PS trouble shooting sticky for more info.

the protege is great.
Once you get it fixed up I doubt you will have any issues after.

If you have an issue email casey and she'll fix you right up.

I couldn't ask for better customer service.

Bottom line, you can't go wrong with puresmoker....and if there's an issue, they will fix it.

Here is what I wrote in someone elses Protege' review.

My Protege' was a hit and miss for the first two weeks. Seriously, I was about to just give up on it and toss it in the trash. I decided to not do that and rebuilt it. LOL! I have very capable machining knowledge - since my ex bf use to have his own shop and two of my brothers are both machinist- it rubs off on you if you hang around them enough. Anyway, so I rebuilt the switch and made a new end cap for the battery housing(screws on much easier now).

The switch that comes with the Protege' is really hard to depress and then it seems to not make good contact. I fixed all that. Took some serious rework but my switch works 100% of the time and doesn't stick and doesn't take tons of pressure to depress.

Replaced those lame contact pins with higher quality material and made it totally different. So my button now looks nothing like the original on the inside.

Also...I dunno who turned the end piece on my Protege where the atty attaches to the body of the mod, but it "was" crooked! LOL! Seriously, it was catawampas. So I made a new one. Now it is no longer crooked.

No I will not rebuild or help others rebuild theirs. It is time consuming and requires good mechanical skills, a mill and a lathe.

I love my Protege' as it is now, but I seriously do not recommend them to other people looking for a PV mod unless they fix the switch problems.

I really shouldn't have had to do so much rework to something I spent good money on and once I found out how this thing was made I learned I could have just made my own.

Never again. I know how they are made now and I'll never by another mod again.

Seriously...they need to get the switches working better. I cannot as a consumer lie and say this product is great...because it is not. It does produce good vapor and the battery last a long time, but not until I rebuilt it. Before it was a total hit amd miss and it got so frustrating just tryingto get it to work as it should. I would not recommend this product unless you have the patients and good mechanical knowledge that you can apply to make it work the way it should.

Fix your switch problems - people at Puresmoke.

The first day I got the thing it just didn't work. The switch or something was not functioning, so I came on the board and got a response within a few minutes from someone from PS. Told me how to take it apart and re-attach it to see if that didn't work. It worked but then other problems arose and it started to become a hit and miss.

I do not have time to mess with sending it back and then have them fix it and so I just decided enough was enough and fixed it myself one afternoon. Works great now.

If you still cannot get it to work Cass, maybe you should request a refund and go with a different mod or stick with 510's, 901's or 801's. Until PS gets their switch issues fixed I wouldn't even mess with it. It isn't worth the hassle.
