my best mod uses 4 radio shack AAA batteries. Powerful, safe, and rechargble.
Give it a try. I only just bought 4 trustfire 14500 batts, and one was bad from the get go.
then you need a special charger for the special batteries.

That is from his website. Without all the bells and whistles like LED's, digi displays, the batt might last quite awhile. I actually have two connected in parallel in my solar mod. Have not had a problem with it at all. Here is my vid I made today of it.
