I have been struggling with coils. I'm on a big budget and cut corners via buying coils on eBay, and turned out they were all counterfeits. Before I found out they were fakes I thought the coils were just the wrong fit for my kangertech subvod C, they were SSOCC .5 & 1.5 coils, so I read a snippet of someone saying the Clapton coil works best for the subvod, in a thread on here. But last night, I read that claptons work best at 45watt and my device only goes up to 30watts. Am I at risk of an exploding device, or just getting horrible hits with the Clapton coils? They arrived today and look legit but I don't even want to put them in if it's going to go bad. While at the same time, I am broke and my coil is burnt out and I spent my ecig budget on Clapton coils until next sunday. So if I can use them, I'm going to want to. Please advise, TIA.

are they made for that device? If so,
They won't explode and if they fit, try them. Clapton coils come in many different sizes, some use 28 with 36 in core but some are much thicker. At 30 watts max, you need the 28/36 imo, anything thicker and you probably won't have the power to optimize the coil.

My wife has that mod and they do make a Clapton style coil for it.

There is no harm in trying and nothing is going to explode, but if your device has a 30W cap, I would recommend trying out the 0.5ohm non-clapton coils. Especially if you are short on money and can only get one pack right now, I think those have a better chance of giving you a satisfying vape with the parameters of your mod. The clapton coils are slow to ramp up at 30W. I still use my subtanks a lot and tend to like the 0.5 coils right around 30W. I usually use the claptons closer to what that other user said, 40-50W. Of course, what works for me may not work for you, but certainly the claptons take a good while to get going at 30W and that's rarely very satisfying or enjoyable.

So yeah, I would definitely throw my hat in for the plain old 0.5ohm SSOCC heads. Just my $0.2, YMMV.

ed: I believe there are now kanthal and stainless steel 0.5ohm SSOCC heads. Either would be good and appropriate for your device. If they don't still make both, then whatever they're making of that resistance that isn't claptoned.
