Can someone explain drip shields to me?

I've seen these all over the place but i don't get how they work. I assume they are put on to prevent juice leakage etc, but if you put a sleeve over the outside of your atty won't you cut off the airflow?

They have air holes at the top. They catch leakage and allow the vaper to draw it back up into the atty. It's almost like the concept of BF.

if you are doing it right, you shouldn't need one.

there is alos a 510 atty built like the 901. completely sealed bottom with a hole on the side. no bridge ....
