Hey,

After 3 years away from rooms i am doing as much research as i can at night to catch up with the only mod i own (reos) and rm2 rebuildable.

I understand in some parts - micro, nano, super nano refers to the inner diameter of the coil with micro largest n super nano the smallest.

I believe in reoland and other "lands" microcoil actually refers to the fact that all coils/wraps are as close together as possible.

Micro coil has done me well on my reo and rm2- nice and pretty and easy to rewick is biggest benefit - what are some of the other benefits of amicro coil ? - does it heat up faster ?

Also I experimented with some twisted coils BUT my next builds i was going to experiment with small diameter coils 1/16th, 5/64 , and or 3/32s But i am going to allow for some very small spacing in wrapping. Not as wide as a kanthal wrap just some very small spacing between wraps -

What would be the pros or cons of this style of wrapping? - hugest con being rewicking - but the small spacing in my dumb brain seems like it might allow for more wick and hence more liquid being vaporized, no?

Sorry if this was covered like a year ago - i doing my best to search on here and youtube but finding specific answers is tough sometimes.

The spacing/size of coil will not affect the way they heat up. The rate at which they heat depends on the thickness of the wire and the ohmage of the coil set up. Two coils made with the same wire and of the same ohmage, one a contact coil and one a standard coil, should heat up equally quickly. Technically, you are correct about the spacing allowing for more juice to vaporize. But building low ohm and/or identical standard coils takes a lot of practice. Building a consistent contact coil is relatively easy, which is why contact coils have become a favorite of vapers world wide. As far as size goes, there is nano, micro, or macro. Micro coils have an inner diameter of 0.055" to 0.065". Anything below is considered a nano coil and anything above is considered a macro coil. The coils touching doesn't fall into the size category. If the coils are touching, regardless of size, they are called "contact coils."

Thanks zmauls ! I swear in reoland touching coils refers to a micro coil (i could be wrong!) ! But i am with you on how the nomenclature should be and how you described being diameter size etc. and "contact coil" . I will use this way going forward on future posts. thanks for the other info too regarding spacing

Personally, I like the ruggedness of the contact coils. Once they are annealed, I can be fairly aggressive in mounting/placing them and lately I've been wicking with bamboo thread, which takes a little force to place. My concern with spaced coils is the unintended adjustments incurred by either the mounting or the rewicking process. That's me. Ham fisted, squinty eyed me.

I like never having hot legs or hot spots. I used to coil on a screw, which gave nice consistency, but was deformed easily during re wicking, and usually developed a fault of some kind. Especially 30 ga. More robust wires were better, but you run out of room pretty quickly if they aren't touching. The touching wraps micro just works, plain and simple.
