Just wondering if the V1 can safely use the stronger 3.6v RCR123a's?
Would they put too much
juice (electricity) into the atty, and possibly fry it, or would it be safe? Specifically, I ordered a 510 Prodigy and was wondering if it would handle the more powerful batteries.
But, if it is safer to stick with the 3.0's, that's what I'll do.
This has been covered and tested by other members, and Steve even. Here is the general consensus.
Will it work - Yes, some have tried it, and some even ordered a prodigy with no resistor so that they could get the higher 6v rather than the 5v with the resistor.
Will it fry your atty - No, but obviously putting more power through it couldn't help the atomizers longevity.
Would it be safer - Sure, but staying in bed rather than driving to work would also be safer, haha. People have reported doing this without issues, but then again some people have reported different batteries not working at all. Haven't heard of anyone getting hurt.
One more note in case you didn't run across this in the forum, the original V1 config was at 6v, (which is probably where you would land if you used the 3.6v x2 w resistor, maybe a little over), but this caused you to go through juice like it was going out of style, and also caused a much more frequent burnt taste, so Steve switched it to 5v (3v x2, with the resistor to drop it to 5v), and this seemed like the perfect medium during his testing. I think his testing was only on the 901 and 801 back then though, i could be mistaken.
i know you were looking for an answer from someone at PS, but as you can imagine, they are quite busy, so i thought i would give it a shot.
