Hi.

Been using same Aspire cleito .4ohm coil between 45-60W for 3-4weeks now. I do about 3.5ml a day. Happy enough for it to last that long.

Thing is it's hard to know when these coils are dead, because even though there is a burned taste to the liquid - they still chuck out tons of vapour.

So I changed it out, put in new one and yeah, no burned taste, so definitely something in the old coil, I'm guessing either

A. The wire itself

B. The cotton

But as it's still chucking out tons of vapour, is there anything you could do to 'rescue' this coil and get rid of the mild burn taste and re-use?

Again, I'm happy if it is dead, as it lasted a long time, but if it can be saved, hey I'll save it and re-use it.

Thanks

The cotton is obviously knackered

Could you rebuild that coil without damaging the thing?

Try cleaning it in a solution

In my RTAs coild last me about 3 months. I dry burn tge coil after removing the wick and insert a new wick.

I would not dry burn a Nickle or titanium coil.

You may be able to remove the wick install another wick and get more life from thr coil.

First off Did you clean it...

if so - it's the wire

if not - clean it

if it taste fine after cleaning you're good to go

i have a Quad Coil for my TFV4 similar to yours mine was chucking massive unreal clouds but burnt taste...when i first got it i could hit 100w comfortable vapor was barely warm...after a couple days (maybe a week) started getting frequent dry hits...i cleaned it very well then let it dry for a couple hours...then primed it the next day let it sit for 20 mins to absorb it all...hit it again ...it was good for like 10 hits then dry hit again... so i said fck it... i grabbed my tweezer pulled the connector off the bottom of the Quad coil and yanked the wire out....the wires were completely BURNT black and ashy! the wick or cotton was completely fine...the wire atleast mine was an extremely thin "kanthal" wire i don't really mess with rebuildables so i don't know what gauge this is just by looking at it...but it's def the thinnest coil i've seen. overall you need to get a new coil i buy a 5 pack from my local vape shop for like 20 bucks i chain vape so one premade-coil last me about a week maybe 2 if i'm lucky....if you buy online i'm sure you can get cheaper prices.

Coils last for months, cotton clogs up and denatures. The problem with disposable coils is that the two are in a sealed unit so the whole thing needs to be replaced when it gunks up.
This is one of the reasons people move to a rebuildable solution like an RTA or an RDA. The wicking can be easily replaced, the coil can be dry burned to clean it up like new. Cheaper, better.

I'm not going to build.

So answer is - coil is dead?

Anyone tried cleaning, poking a wire brush down there...? anything...?

Yes coil is dead.

You could attempt to clean with
- hot water
- vodka
- denture cleaner

How well it cleans depends on what is in your elqiuid

I don't think using denture cleaner if you're cleaning the coil with the cotton in it, to dry and re-use is a good idea. Vodka seems to be a popular option.

Meh, the Cleitos last so long, I just chucked it an popped in a new one. I could have tried cleaning with vodka or hot water, but with subtank coils I found it just made them narely fire after they were fully dry or they fired but flavour was way muted.

I used to have great success boiling the old ego-t and ego-c atties. They'd last me several months. I think it is the cotton wicks in the sub ohm tanks, something about boiling them seems to ruin them

Cleitos last long enough I don't mind not being able to clean them however. Would be nice if someone had found a way, but yeah I get a couple of weeks or more per coil, so fair play.

I have found that some replaceable coil heads have cotton for wicking and some have silica for wicking (most now use cotton).

If your coil head has silica like the little coil heads used in the Kanger Protank and Kanger Aerotank, you can run water through them and then dry burn it until it stops smoking ... it won't hurt the silica wick at all. You can get a lot of miles out of these types of coil heads.

However, if the wicking is cotton, you just need to replace the coil head as soon as it either starts tasting / smelling burnt, or it starts to not heat enough for a good vape .... and replacing some of these various cotton wicked coil heads can get expensive over time.
