Can your mod/e-cig be an ignition source?

Never thought about it, until today. One of our safety men told me that I can only vape in designated smoking areas because e-cigs are considered an ignition source.
I really don't care about this new rule, since I get to take even more breaks like the smokers do.
BTW, I'm a welder/fabricator by trade.
After I thought about it for a bit, I did a little test that involved a set of cutting torches. In short, I proved my point and needless to say, my mods & tanks are just fine.

Now I'm not saying that a PV can't be used to light a fire, or that all PV's are perfectly safe. That's would just be silly. But, I can start a fire with a flashlight a lot easier. lol!
This new rule was instigated by someone (I know who it was) that has no clue how an e-cig/PV works and swears up and down that we are smoking illegal drugs.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has ran into something like this? I mean beside Federal, state & local governments. LOL!

If there are gasses around that could potentially be set off by an ignition source, it's plausible since the heating element of the atomizer is essentially a light bulb filament without the bulb and gasses sealed into it.

Filled with liquid, probably not much of a danger, but if empty and the wire is glowing hot, probably more so.

a dry coil will turn bright red, but I have no idea if it will light your torch. I am going to try it tomorrow with a mechanical mod and oxy/acetylene. or is that what you have already done?

Yes they could ignite something, however if you are in a situation where it could ignite something... well you are in a dangerous situation in which you wouldn't be thinking of vaping in the first place.

I can see the danger under the right conditions. Like xwarp said, it's an exposed wire that heats up. I don't think it is much danger if working properly but I have seen a few videos of genesis style rebuildables lighting on fire. Better safe, ya know?

I hardly understand the point if you are a welder. You are already constantly in an Ignition flux.

That said, there are many gases much more volatile than welding gases. Any mechanical switch device could potentially ignite them. Caution is always taken with ANY electrical devices for the same reason. Even a cell phone has the potential.
