Hello! I just joined, and this is my first post. Hoping someone can explain some more than repeatedly Googling can.

This is a lot of reading.... sorry.

Story, and issue:

I have been aware, and attempting to use e-cigarettes since December of 2013.

My first E-Cig was a Blu disposable (24 mg nicotine) that I bought at the store for $10. It worked EXTREMELY well at making me feel like I didn't need a cigarette. No throat hit whatsoever. An amazing feeling for a 28 year old smoking since 14.

So I IMMEDIATELY went out and bought the Blu "starter kit" which was about $30, and came with 4 different flavors to try out. Again, tasted great, and no throat hit whatsoever which is great.

OK, so I will try to shorten this up as best I can, sorry. I then went and bought a simple 510 threaded battery, and a CE4 clearomizer. Purchased a custom e-juice from ECBlend and it was TERRIBLE and I practically passed out from attempting to inhale this disgusting creation I made. 18mg nicotine, and wow I really really could not even slightly inhale, I immediately went into a coughing fit.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. I purchased another 510 threaded battery, but this time Variable Voltage. 10 CE4 clearomizers, a Kanger Protank 3, and 4 Gemini dual wick clearomizers. I then also purchased 15 bottles of all different flavors and variations of PG/VG and even nicotine. I knew that nicotine was bad, so I bought only 6 mg, and 12 mg assorted.

No matter what my setup, what my clearomizer is, what techniques I use to inhale the vapor, voltage settings, flavor, PG/VG variant, or even nicotine variant. I cannot inhale more than a puff without coughing up so bad I lose vision in both of my eyes, and practically pass out. My throat tightens up immedately, and I begin to cough my brains out.

So 6 mg 80vg/20pg makes me practically vomit, and I don't know why. A Blu disposable ($10 each, ugh) seems to be my only option. Unless someone can tell me how to replicate their setup with something that creates reasonable clouds, and a good nicotine burst.

Well… I would suggest starting with one of the items you purchased. Lets say a clearo and adjustable battery of your choice. Fill it with the lowest nic fluid you have.. Whatever flavor suits you. Set the voltage as low as it will go. Do a couple primer puffs or so to make sure your wick is getting fluid. Unless the wick is just in the fluid and you can plainly see that.

Start with mouth to lung hits. Vary your speed (strength) of draw, and time you draw. Once you get an idea or notice you are getting no flavor at all slowly turn up the voltage to a comfortable spot.

Lemme know if that helps.. I will try the best I can to help you.

It can be tuff inhaling vapor after smoking I had a hard time. whats crazy is you were able to inhale vapor from the Blu so this should be the same. what I remember of the Blu the vapor was very little of it, was that the case for you? you may try taking smaller puffs mouth to lung inhale and gradually increase the puff time as you can tolerate it. that did the trick for me till I got used to the vapor took a day or two had some coughing fits during that time but kept at it because I could tell it was getting easier to handle.

I'm not familiar with that brand, but certain flavors give me a hard time. For example, I mostly use mount baker vapor, and they're a fantastic juice company imo. But I ordered a bottle of their blueberry and it was way too harsh for me. Their caramel candy though... I can hit that on the hardest hitting devices out there and be fine

You could try your battery at 3.2v and get some 2.4 or 2.8ohm claromizers – or a vision nano- these are 2.8ohm and I like them (most people don’t). Then get a small bottle of Johnson Creek juice in the same flavor as the Blu you like. I think they still make the Blu juice. – I could be wrong. Also – remember that you don’t need to inhale to get nicotine from vapor – most is absorbed in your mouth. Good luck.

OK, your battery is fine, however, your toppers are, ahem, not what I would have chosen. CE4 clearos are really old technology, top coil, non-changeable coils... THey are useable, I guess, but there are much better choices nowadays. I love Kanger BCC line, but ProTank 3 was a mistake and even kanger knows that. But not all is lost--you can turn it into a great tank but getting Kanger's Aerotank airflow base, sold separately, and using it instead of the base that came with the PT3.

http://www.vaporbeast.com/kanger-aerotank-metal-base-airflow-control-valve-stainless-steel.html

I'm not familiar with the Gemini clearos.

What wattage are you vaping at? Do you know? If you're choking, your vape may be too hot. Also, those top coil (CE4) clearos may be too harsh for you. You may be getting dry hits?

I suggest you add a simple single bottom coil Kanger clearo like T3S or baby T3S--they are very user friendly and provide a nice, consistent vape. Start at 6 watts or so and only increase wattage if necessary.

Good luck.

Sounds like the brand of juice you are using isnt working for you. Do you have any friends who vape? Id say if you do try out some of there stuff and see what they like.
It sounds like to me its a high voltage issue and perhaps even a inhaling problem. IMO you will still get a buzz even if just getting a nice puff in your cheeks and not so much in your lungs. It sorta takes practice I guess I sorta can see where your coming from.

You are like one of my friends. He has bad asthma, but continues to smoke. No matter what setup I have setup for him, he cannot tolerate it.

Any time he vapes he claims he gets irritated, itchy nose / throat, sometimes coughs, etc. But he is not set on vaping. He is one of those people that claims vaping has unknown chemicals, and your lungs are not meant to inhale a flavor. But yet he smokes cigarettes.

You seem adamant on vaping. As recommended, I would start with the lowest voltage setting and take small hits. Also it may be the flavoring and / or certain juices.

Looks for some unflavored 100% VG for starters and see how that works. For a flavored juice, try suicide bunny. All their juices are very smooth.

The title of this post, specifically how much you spent, leads me to believe you have the cash to blow to get the right set up for yourself. Dont second guess yourself even on spending more $$$, it takes a while to find what is right for everybody. If this is the case I would highly suggest either talking to friends who are avid about vaping, or go to a reputable vape store and ask the folks there to show you some options. Atleast for me, the amount of money I spent finding the right set up was insignificant to, quitting smoking and the joy of vaping.
I would say a quality set up for just the device alone should run you between 100-150 $$$ others might say less, but I would say you can find something pretty nice for around this much.

Hmmm. That's a tough one. First you need to vape like your granddad having a puff on his pipe on a sunny sunday afternoon in the garden. Don't inhale directly. Hold it in your mouth and then inhale or just exhale through mouth or nose. Drink plenty of water. I find personally that PG is a major harsh dry coughing irritant for me but you're saying 50:50 works well. I don't think 6 or 12 mg is overly strong, certainly not on a basic battery such as you're using. Make sure you tilt the ecig vs vaping it vertically because the wick in the clearo needs to be well saturated.

I would suggest trying some main line brands - such as Ahlusion, Heathers Heavenly Vapes and though I haven't tried them Nicoticket is very popular. Don't spend loads of money on large bottles. Buy sampler packs, or 6 ml sizes. Better to curse that you have to wait a week because you vaped and loved 6 ml, than to toss 600 mls down the drain. most important hang in there, and have some blu ecigs on hand as you transition slowly and hopefully more cheaply.

Plus one for jjk1's post - Johnson Creek making the Blu eliquid - it may not be their proprietary blend, but you could email Ben(?) (guys, correct me please if I got that wrong) and ask him for their closest equivalent.

Good luck!

I have 2 100% VG blends. One 6 MG, and one 12 mg. Both hit pretty hard. Not as bad as some, but I also have a 50/50 pg vg that actually almost is tolerable. Weird right?

If you are using a variable voltage battery turn the voltage down all the way. To high a voltage will make the vape HOT and hit your throat hard.

Try Mouth inhale and then inhale to your lungs or NOT. You don't have to Lung inhale to get the Nicotine.

If i can give one piece of advice hit up a ejuice bar you will save a tons of cash i bought 12 tanks to sample ejucie just so i wouldnt have to clean out tanks as much. Big mistake i didn't like 90% of the ejuice i bought and now i only use 3-4 tanks. i presume i could have saved $500 or so. If your new to vaping or you want quit smoking and start vaping just Buy a Innokin MVP2.0($55) an Aspire Nautilus Tank($35) Aspire Nautilus coils($18) and you good to go dont bother with anything else to start out this is by far the best set up to quit smoking on a budget. In all if you buy what i suggested you will have 7 coils. At minimum that will last you 7 weeks at most 10 weeks. On a side note the cheapest ejuice i found is at Mt. Baker Vapor in the USA 7.50 per 30ml I have some on order. Jugheads in Alberta also sells for $10 for 30ml (hard to get) and lastly East coast Vape in New Brunswick sells for $10 per 30ml but its not that good.

Vaping is highly individual. I tend to think of it as customizable such that every smoker can eventually find what will work for them.

Getting your eliquid, or all day vape, is important and just sampling one or two brands might be like winning the lottery. There's some well known, successful, highly rated brands that just don't work for me. I think everyone develops a list of those. Also just because it says 100% VG doesn't mean there isn't somethng else going on too. For me, I discovered I was sensitive to cinnamon and alcohol that some flavorings used in addition to PG. I can not inhale them. I have heard from others that VG causes a heaviness in their chest and they need high PG. This is what I mean that it varies widely between individuals. There is also the possibility of an allergy being triggered with a specific flavoring.

What you might try is getting a small amount of your nic in 100% VG and another 100% PG, then try vaping each one of those unflavored - not for taste (although they don't taste bad) but to see if one or the other is tolerated better. Hopefully that will give you a better idea of what works best for you. When it comes to flavors, in the beginning, try out as many different ones as possible. There's some good deals with subscription services. Finding a flavor you like, with an eliquid that is comfortable is very important to success with vaping.

I had a lot of problems starting out too, usually due to coughing. The equipment didn't matter much. The eliquid did.

You mentioned the form factor of the Blu, so you might want to consider an E-roll. From what I've heard those are very good and will do a better job of producing vapor than Blu.
