I've been off of cigarettes for over 6 months after being a heavy (1 1/2 PAD) smoker for over 30 years. My first juice purchase was 36 mg and after that I've been mixing my own at 36 mg. My wife is also a vaper and she has been able to cut down from 36 mg to 18 mg (I mix for her, so I know).

The times that I tried quitting smoking I would have a mental meltdown, thinking about nothing but smoking until I cracked and lit up. This is what's happening when I cut down my nic levels; I can't seem to think of anything but the fact that my nic level is cut, until I dump the tank and refill with 36 mg.

I'm not complaining though. I am off tobacco and I am very VERY proud of that!

One day I might be able to cut my nic level - maybe not :)

Maybe ask your wife switch out your liquid with some lower mg liquid without you knowing. That would eliminate you constantly thinking about it and perhaps you will surprise yourself. Otherwise, perhaps just a more gradual reduction. Since you DIY, you could try 34mg for a bit, then maybe 32mg, etc.

In any case, congratulations to you and your wife on your success.

Edit: Vapor is clearly not an issue... nice avatar!

I found it to be opposite. I got into DIY with the purpose of cutting my nic intake way down. I've gone from 24 down to 10 over the last three months. I took my steps down in 2mg increments lol. So, for me it has been so gradual I hardly notice.

Is your intention to cut down?

Edit: I should also mention that I have spent the last month with RBA's and RDA's and I think that has played a part in me wanting to decrease my nic as well.

I mix and match nic levels. What I mean is I have several tanks with the same juice but different nic. When they run low sometimes I just add my flavored zero nic sometimes I add flavored with nic. I never really know what level I am vaping but I do know it is lower than it was before I mixed them up. When I find I am vaping too much I figure the nic level in them has become too low for me so I add a stronger juice. I hope I have not completely confused you.

There's no hurry. All of our bodies react differently to nicotine. Some. Like your wife are easy to lower nic. Others it can take much longer. Some here haven't lowered their nicotine level since they've started. When I start vapeing less I lower my nic level. Then I vape more. When I start vaping less again I'll lower my level again. And so on and so on. Even if you don't lower your level hey you're not smoking. That's the important thing.

I know what you mean..I've been a Vapor for over 100 days. I've tried going below 24mg and I just can't do it. I DIY also..for me and my husband. We both have tried going lower and it just was not satisfying at all. It was like trying to quit smoking all over again. My husband told me that I got him to quit smoking, and that was enough...don't try getting him to go lower any more, when this is what satisfies him...and I agree. We are off Cigs and that's good enough, for us anyhow!

I've cut the nic down quite a bit, from 24 down to 6mg when I am really stressed or having a couple beers, and 3mg most of the time. Every time I made a new batch I dropped the nic down 2mg's. I have a few different juices that are mixed at different levels since I have went about it this way. I have found it to be fairly easy, I think because it was a slow transition, and if I found it rough I could change flavors and go to a stronger nic level. I also did most of this transition when it was slow at work, and I wasn't too stressed out, which I think helped a lot (wholesale for construction so it's easy to know when the busy/stressful season hits). Good luck.

For me, I've viewed vaping as alternative to tobacco rather than getting off nicotine. I honestly don't have the desire to quit nicotine, but I DO want to get off tobacco and I've got 2 months of no tobacco at all that has proven to me that I don't have a tobacco addiction but rather a nicotine addiction. I'm vaping a 24mg nic juice right now, same as I did on day one and that has kept me from rotting my teeth and gums out for 2 months from using smokless tobacco...If that ain't enough then I don't know what is.

If you want to get off nicotine, the only thing you can do is force yourself to mix your juice with less nicotine because otherwise you'll stick with 36mg forever. Good luck to you if that's what you want to do.

There has to be something in nicotene that is beneficial to a certain point. Why else would there be so many people using it. I personally think that maybe in another era it was used as a calming med. I think that when people realized they could make money off of it they went ape.... and decided to make sure they hooked as many as possible to keep the revenue intact. They have definitely succeeded but the times are changing.

There are definitely psychotropic benefits to nicotine. People are often using it to self medicate for depression, anxiety, panic attacks or ADD. I've also heard people say it was helpful for IBS and collitis

Haha, good logic. So many people use it... it must be beneficial somehow. I sincerely wish it worked like that, but I could name several chemicals that many people use that aren't beneficial at all. It's addictive, that's why people use it. It affects something your body also regulates, and if you stop, the feeling of your body learning to regulate it again is unpleasant. So, rather than feeling the unpleasantry, people make it go away by using more. I very much doubt anyone is actually doing it for a health benefit. Even people that say they do it to self-medicate depression... I think that's just what they tell themselves (depressed or not) when in fact they're hooked on it for the same reason as the rest of us.

OP: Cut down your nicotine single-blind-style! It sounds like what holds you back is the thought of knowing you're using less nicotine. You didn't say it was withdrawls or anything like that, just the anxiety of knowing it's not there.

Get four bottles of juice, identical flavors, with one having less nicotine than the rest. Don't label them. Get your friend to dispense them into identical bottles so you really, really can't tell. Then set them up in a line.

Each time you need to refill, grab the first bottle, and afterwards put it in the back of the line.

Once you're done with those bottles, do it again but use less nicotine in two of the bottles. Then three.

Why would it help to do it this way?
*You're mixing nicotine levels when you refill your tank, so you don't get the sudden loss of nicotine, so it's less noticeable.
*You don't know which juice you're using. The anxiety is spread out evenly, and you have the peace of mind of knowing each refill at first is probably full-strength. It's easier to handle "this tankful might be weaker" than "this tankful IS weaker and I know it".
*It's a way to spread out cutting down over a very long period without making a lot of different juices with slightly different nicotine concentrations.

I was in your boat a few months back. Was starting to wonder if I would ever be able to drop the nic levels. Then I started setting my e cig down and forgetting about. At times for several hours. Decided to try cutting levels, and have. Everyone one is different. When I finally could just think about dropping the levels without panicking....then I was ready to try ;)

Started off at 32 and now at 6. Been doing 6 since may.

If you cut down vape more. A lot more.

I have vape sessions when cutting down and still do during hard times.

Just sit in a nice relaxing area and vape. I'll blow through 5 mils easily.

After a while you get used to it and only vape when you think you need too.

But truthfully don't really see a point in cutting down. If I knew what I knew now I wouldnt have done it.

I was going to quit all together but decided against it cause I love to vape.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Fortunately for me I never really noticed. Started vaping 36mg juice in March and cut the nic to 24, 18, 12, 6 to zero in just over 2 months. I've been vaping zero nic for about a month now. The only issue left for me is the 30ml bottle of 6mg Blackberry I left to steep for a month. Guess it will last me some weeks of light daily vaping along with my zero nic supply of juices.
