Hey all. I've tried doing some research and asking friends but haven't really gotten anywhere so I wanted to see if I can get any ideas from a forum. Started making ejuice about a month ago. Made my ejuice from a recipe that was highly rated. I'll link to it below. I'm not tasting my juice. Like at all. I'm using a .18 ohm duel tiger coil build and I've gotten great flavor from off the shelf juices. And other people have tried the stuff I made and said they think it tastes good. But I can't taste a darn thing. Any help on what to maybe try doing with it? A friend suggested adding a sweeter but idk how I feel about that.

I'm having similar issues, I can't taste a lot of juice, only 2 flavors I have can I actually taste and those are very strong (one is halo sub zero the other is pink spot vapor).

Try cleansing your palate with lemon flavored water for starters. Then I have found that eating a pickle or some Pineapple works to get rid of vapors tongue. Like in a restaurant they give lemon sorbet to cleanse the palate so you really taste your food.

Good Luck and Vape On Safely

Ok I might have to give that a try. I never have this issue with commercial juices. And if I drop them and then add my juice. I just taste the last juice I tried for example

I tried the lemon water when I was trying to find something other than Tobacco that I could vape but they all tasted the same. Next time I brought in a bottle of water and walked out with a Tropical Fruit and now the flavors I stock number over 100. DIY is one reason I have so many now.

Hi @Viperpit07 and welcome to the ECF community.

There are several different reasons you might be experiencing flavor loss. Vaper's Tongue (the temporary loss of the ability to taste) is one (and what the previous suggestions are designed to help alleviate), over-flavoring is another, too much sweeteners like ethyl maltol (often abbreviated as EM, and also sold as "Cotton Candy" flavor) and sucralose are yet another, and dirty carbonized coils are still yet another, and under flavoring is possible too. Don't forget that vaping temperature can have an affect on taste as well.

Because you say you can taste your commercially prepared juice just fine and then switch to your DIY and instantly taste nothing, I am guessing that you can rule out vaper's tongue, as this is usually more of an all-or-nothing event.

The link to your recipe appears to have been removed (certain sites like ELR and VU are not permitted to be linked to on ECF and are automatically removed by the system. That's why you are seeing the "***************" string.). Would you please either take a screen sot of the recipe and post it (limited screen shots of recipes are usually permitted as long as they don't include headers or ULRs), or type out the recipe as you mixed it (be sure to include all ingredients and vendor names of flavors too), so we can get a better feel of the recipe that is giving you problems?

How are you mixing? Do you use syringes, measure by weight, count drops, just "eyeball" it, or something else? Are you using a recipe/mixing calculator, and if so, which one?

Have you had anyone else try this specific batch and did they taste anything? [Sorry, I just reread your original post, and now I'm uncertain if others have tasted this specific batch, or just previous mixes you have made.]

I am guessing that over-flavoring is a more likely culprit; though too much sweetener and dirty coils can't be ruled out either (if your coils are gunked up, you might not be tasting a more lightly flavored DIY juice, but still taste a more heavily flavored commercial juice).

If you have a variable power device you might want to experiment (if you haven't already) with higher and lower temperature/power/wattage too. For reasons beyond my understanding; different recipes taste better/stronger/different at different temperatures.

Also, if it is over-flavoring, you could try cutting it. Mix up a small amount of unflavored (just VG, PG, and nic at your usual ratios) and then add it to your mix. I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING THIS TO YOUR ENTIRE BATCH UNTIL YOU CONFIRM IT IS THE PROBLEM. Instead, take a small amount (say 2mL) and then cut with 1mL of unflavored(cut is 2:1). Shake and vape. Is it any better or still tasteless? If it is still tasteless (or starting to get a little taste but still very faint) then add another 1mL of unflavored (so now it is cut 1:1). shake and vape. Now how is it? Continue as needed or until you have reached a 5:1 dilution... I can't imagine that you would need to cut it beyond that to start perceiving flavor if it is indeed over-flavored.

I have had others try this batch and they say it tastes great. I've tried changing wattage. Usually I use 68 watts. I've tried from 50 to 110w and notice little to no difference. My coils and wicks look like new.
The recipe is a creamy wedding cake " "
60/40 VG PG
3mg NIC
30 mil bottle
.3 mils coconut extra TPA
.6 French vanilla cap
1.98 sugar cookie cap
1.98 vanilla custard v1 cap

Also I usually vape very sweet cream vapes. So even though it looked like. VERY rich mixture I assumed it would be perfect. I ran the bottle under hot water for 10 min. Didn't work. Let it steep for 2 weeks. That didn't help either.

Gotch ya.

The percentages (1%, 2%, 6.6%, and 6.6% respectively, with an overall flavoring of 16.2% to volume) don't look unreasonable to me. Maybe a touch high on the Sugar Cookie and Vanilla Custard but nothing that seems outlandish and likely to cause flavor fade (at least to me... others may have a different opinion).

Capella's Vanilla Custard V1 is frequently preferred with 4 (or more) weeks of shelf time ("steeping"). You might just want to park it for another two weeks and see what (if anything) more develops.

The last thing I can offer up for thought is; in your original post you said:
Made my ejuice from a recipe that was highly rated.
The recipe does indeed have a 5 star rating; ONE 5 star rating to be precise... and that would be from the poster (the number of people rating the recipe is in parentheses to the right of the stars). I take these types of ratings with a grain of salt. I look for multiple 4 & 5 star ratings and comments when evaluating potential recipes to try on that site. Fewer ratings don't make it bad; it just hasn't been tried/tested by as many people (at least who were motivated enough to respond).

It is also the only recipe shared by that poster and he/she has not participated in the forums (both of which can be learned by clicking on the user name). Again, not a bad thing, but considering they posted the recipe over two years ago, they don't strike me as an "enthusiast." That makes me wonder how well they may know their ingredients and I have nothing further to seek better understanding. That combined with a lack of any description (other than the name), or any useful production notes (like steep time) probably would have made this one I would have passed on (unless I was looking for a "what-the-heck" recipe to tinker with). But that is just me... I have no doubt I have missed out on some good recipes because I didn't take a chance.

And on the other side, I am lucky if I get 1 recipe out of 5 new ones that I do try (even ones with lots of favorable reviews), that I will ever make again. They are not bad recipes; they simply don't appeal to me.

Let us know if you get it figured out. :)

I guess your right. I didn't see that it was only rated by one person. I looked it up because I was trying to re create the wedding crasher juice I had about a month ago and fell in love with. I'm trying a couple things with it.
I am getting a hint of "cotton mouth" fro. The juice as well so a friend recommended trying the mix without nicotine just to figure out if that is the problem. Maybe I'll just have to try a new recipe though. Thank you very much for the response. I was starting to think maybe there was just something wrong with my pallet lol

Cotton (dry) mouth is a flavor killer. Biotine mouthwash is a moisturizer and palate cleanser. It only takes a small amount to re-hydrate your mouth and taste buds. Citrus fruits are good for that, also.

I'm vaping unflavored right now and drinking lots of water to give my taste buds a rest.

Welcome and glad you joined. Some folks taste buds are better than others. The author of this mix may fall in that category.
I would play with the cream and custard percentages. Both types can dull/mute a mix.
