I'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread, but has anyone else written to the public health director about your e cig experiences? I'm not from Massachusetts, but I wrote in anyway. John Ciccotelli (director of public health) replied to me, and said he would make sure the board of health received a copy of my comments before the 12th. I found this encouraging, as I expected no response. He said the board was open to revising their complete ban. I could easily foresee a domino effect of other cities trying to ban e cigarettes if this legislation passes, so I decided to write in. I only wish I had the money/time to fly there and appear in person.

I live in mass and this is an outrage !!! How can they ban an e cig but allow smoking wich is way more harmfull to the smoker and those aroind them ???

Insane banning a nicotine delivery device that is as safe as the patch and helps people quit. Whats next they gona ban tomattos they have nicotine too u know....

Got one word for you my friend, lobbyists. Can you imagine tobacco companies letting the ecigs get a share of the market. They use to use death threats on their own employees to keep them quiet about health risks about smoking, I would be stunned if their not buying up senators and media giants to kill off the ecig market before it gains a proper foot hold. Its sad but those guys don't give a **** about our health, their only after our money even if they have to pry it out of a cold, dead, cancer ridden hands.

I would agree big tobacco has something to do with this, and they're starting with a smaller city, hoping it will have a domino effect in the future. Just imagine the money BT is losing; all those "I quit tobacco" banners with the money saved by not buying cigarettes, add them all up. I bet 99% of vapers are ex smokers or smokers augmenting their analogs. Something like this would never go over in a big city (New York, Chicago, Seattle, etc.) unless many other places passed an ecig ban into law, giving BT a precedent to stand on. I think the idea was for us not to notice what was going on in Canton until it was too late; thank you so much CASAA for keeping tabs on this kind of thing!
Just because I don't live in Canton, it doesn't mean this legislation isn't going to affect me. I would hope if my city came under attack, other vapers would help me fight back. We're all in this together.

I saw on the news tonight, channel 5 I believe, a clip of what's happening in canton. A counsel member was on and he showed a stack of responses that he has received with regards to banning ecigs in canton. He said here is a stack of responses for ecigs abou 3/4 inch thick. Then said and here are the responses against ecigs. He pointed to a blank section on his desk next to the positive responses. Looks like the ban will fail. I will search for a link to the canton segment and post what I find.

He can add one more letter to the stack from out here in the Happy Valley!

Short and sweet. I think he has the facts now so it is just another vape positive response:

Dear Mr. Ciccotelli,

As a resident and voter in Massachusetts I am extremely upset about the precedent that that the town of Canton is making with the attempt to ban E-cigarettes in your town. After trying every other way including the patch, medications and even hypnosis, it was E-cigarettes that allowed me to stop my thirty year use of tobacco. It is one of the most important things I have done in many years and my health is greatly improved. Please re-visit your decision and take in to account the thousands that have been able to step away from tobacco using this much less harmful method of nicotine delivery.

Sincerely,

John ****

I'm not far from there, and I plan on attending, along with a few of the RI vendors I know pretty well from doing business with them. Just last night I was talking with one of them about all of this. We plan to show up and give our speeches and see what happens - hopefully it helps. I'm not in the business, but as a consumer and supporter I do as much as I can to support the movement.

I didn't read all the posts before replying, I didn't have to. You see I used to live in the Peoples Republic of Comunistchusetts. Its not BT or lobbiests, its the nanny state mentality. Ask roger gendron, there is a town that banned plastic water bottles because they are bad for the environment, but only if sold at a convience store. Cities and towns in Massachusetts will do anything because it sounds like a good idea with no thought as to the reality of the situation.

This is a state that believes that the rights of a dead terrorist supercedes the taxpaying citizens the right to know how the terror was funded. This is a state that drove my from my childhood home due to asinine policies and regulations and flee to a sane destination, Las Vegas. Seriously, Las Vegas is more sane than the governments of Massachusetts. So if that town decides that real cigarettes are fine but e-cigarettes are dangerous and need to be banned, then thats just what they'll do. Its for the children don't ya know.

Sorry for going off, but I love my home state, and hate the way its being run with a white hot passion.
