Cap spring won't go back in

I was having trouble with my batts I just got lasting almost no time all at all. So I decided to clean out the contacts and all to get them working right again like I read you should however I have spent the past 2 days trying to get the spring back in the end cap. Is there a trick to it? I cannot get this thing in to save my life. Anyone have any ideas?

I usually suggest taking the end of a pencil eraser and firmly press the spring in place.

Or anything larger than the spring to help press fit it in place.

Try rotating the spring as you push down. Like you are screwing it back into place..See if that helps.

Put one side of the spring in a little and just take a flathead or fingernail while holding it and push the other side in .Then just give it a twist when its in to make sure it seated correctly.

I think I totally ruined the spring trying to get it back in. I just ordered another end cap but thanks for the help
