Yep, just found my sweet spot at 15% for SS too.

Also found a strawberry/french vanilla combo I really like the taste of. But it's missing something - body? Is that what EM adds? Also, is EM something I can buy locally, or do I have to wait for the mailman again?

Thanks.

P.S. This thread is getting too long to find stuff in earlier posts, so sorry if you've answered this already.

While you're waiting on the EM (I rarely use it with Capella flavors, but what do I know) try adding a little vinegar or lemon juice. Personally I think acv adds body. Add about 2 drops per ml.
Vinegar will add more body and accentuate the french vanilla, and lemon juice will bring out the tartness of the strawberry...depends what you want it to do.

Well now y'all have me confused. I thought it was Marshmallow a majority added to their juices. I add Cotton Candy to my Banana and Raspberry, and that's about it. I like the others in their natural state.

Marshmallow is just a regular flavor unlike cotton candy which is not exactly a flavor since its EM. Marshmallow does have some nice effects to it though. It does add a little body, moistness and numbing effect. It is a flavor though just like red hots flavors has special numbing and spicyness properties . Cotton candy i dont think of as a flavoring .That i think of as a additive . Marshamallow could be used as a regular standalone flavor but cotton candy is not to be used as a regular standalone flavor except in specific situations. Hope i explained this good enough . A lot of people get confused over these two flavors.

My marshmallow stays in my flavoring draw and my cotton candy sits with my additives like sweetener/ACV/vinegar/tart and sour/lemon juice/caramel color/wizards etc.

Remember this also for vinegar .Vinegar will add body but it will also remove sweetness . I only use vinegar in mixes that i dont want sweet ,mainly a tobacco type juice. I find it to have negative effects on bakery and fruit juices. I think of vinegar as bitter wizard. for bakery and fruit you would want a lemon juice,t&s or EM

Thanks guys.

I have marshmallow, which helped a little, but not quite what I'm looking for.

Lemon juice did bring out the strawberry more, but still not that elusive...whatever you want to call it.g

Have great hopes for EM, ordered today.

Yep...I'd have gone with the apple cider vinegar :(
Unlike some, I find it adds a richness to custard/buttery type juices. Try it next time and see what you think ;)
Good luck with the EM!

I think the Tart & Sour is the way to go with the fruity flavors for me at least. Its really brightens up the flavor for sure. I use it all the time on those type of flavors and it produces amazing results.

Havent tried ACV yet and curious how that tastes now. Well until I figure out this allergy thing everything is on hold right now.

I lied - didn't pull the trigger yet. While I'm at it, I'd like to get some other stuff I may need.

1) Mask something or other? Do I need this?

2) Tart and sour? Isn't this another week acid, like acetic (vinegar) or citric (lemon)?

3) Koolaid? OK, not Koolaid, but something like that.

4) Menthol crystals? Not planning to make menthol, but is there some other use?

5) Any additive I've missed?

One last question - honest!

As I'll soon be getting a bunch of flavors from the coop, I figured I may as well go the whole hog with this order.

I remember someone, Mr. Str8 I think, mentioning that he rarely uses capella flavors alone, that he uses small amounts of other manufacturers' stuff to enhance the capellas. Would you mind giving me a list of the ones you use most often?

Thanks so much.

I use multiple capellas flavors together too . I like using DIYFS flavors to mix capellas with. I also sometime mix cap PB with TPA PB. FW sugar cookies is another i use a lot.

Honestly, Morgan, I would really strongly advise you to keep it much more simple to begin with. You are reading a lot of posts of experienced DIYers who have DIY'd for months. I think I can speak for most of us in that we all started off with just the basic flavorings and the EM (Cotton Candy) and/or Marshmallow as enhancers/sweetners. All this recent posting of the vinegar and lemon juice is something we have recently found to help - and can be added later if you wish. Trust me, if you order nothing but the flavors, you will still be totally jazzed at what you brew up - really. If you use the basic rule of mixing Capella's flavorings at 12-15%, you won't fail.:) I'm just concerned that you may feel overwhelmed with all the extras instead of just having a heck of a blast mixing your basics.

1) Mask something or other? Do I need this?
FA Magic Mask is for the more savory flavors and tobaccos. Kind of like adding Accent or MSG to foods - just a tiny bit.

2) Tart and sour? Isn't this another week acid, like acetic (vinegar) or citric (lemon)?
Tart and Sour is also a flavor enhancer. Use it sparingly to bring out the flavor of the fruits and the tartness. If you add a lot, it will turn sweet.

3) Koolaid? OK, not Koolaid, but something like that.
TFA Koolada is to give a cool/cold/icy effect like a smoothie, ice cream. I use it only rarely.

4) Menthol crystals? Not planning to make menthol, but is there some other use?
I got menthol crystals a couple of months ago and still have not used even a pinch. Some ppl add one drop to make a flavor "pop," while others who like menthol add more. If you get some, why don't you keep it simple and buy it in the already liquid form from TFA.

5) Any additive I've missed?
Your flavors are going to be outstanding if you use nothing else but Cotton Candy or Marshmallow if you wish to sweeten and/or smooth out the flavors somewhat.

The most important part of DIY'g is to have fun with it! It should never be an overwhelming or doubtful experience.

You might think of getting a bottle of Everclear (PGA) to sterilize your bottles, needles and to dilute your flavorings that have an oil base.

One last piece of advice from me would be to always replace the dropper tip immediately after you take it out if you use a syring to measure by mls for larger batches. Those little bottles have a way of flopping over on their side and spilling out.;)

Tart and sour actually is malic and citric acid .Also use a little to make sweet and a lot to make sour. With Koolada its more of a cooling effect like menthol but without the minty menthol taste ,not ice cream like.

Even for someone with no experience i would recomend using more then single flavor juices . At least two flavors .There are a few flavors that are great as a standalone but the majority need to be mixed to make a great juice.

I agree on not worrying about any enhancers besides EM and Sucralose sweetener. THose two are the only real important enhancers especially being new. A lot of my recipes lately are super rich and sweet without a single enhancer.Make sure to test all your flavors before starting to make juices. That is most important. Without testing its like trying to diy blindfolded.

Thanks for the correction on the Tart and Sour, Str8.

I agree with mixing some of the flavors as combos such as the Cheesecake, Double Chocolate, and French Vanilla, but I like to always taste them as a single flavoring first to savor the full, accurate taste to be able to broaden the horizon on combos.

One flavor I very rarely mix with others is the Toasted Almond. It is my very favorite, and I feel like I'm ruining it when I cover up the magnificent taste of it. If I had to give away all my flavors, I would hide my Toasted Almond first:laugh:

Some ppl's taste buds are more sensitive than others too. I never can taste Waffle. It just tastes like nothing to me clear up to 20% - haven't tried it any higher, just gave up on it.
