Double choco doesnt have caramel color according to their site .It would say it in the ingredients

Double Chocolate - flavored tea e liquid water flavors e juice coffee flavors e cigarette flavoring Diet & Fitness Baking & Desserts

Well that is a downer. I was going to place an order for caramel. Not happening now. Caramel color is CARCINOGENIC when taken as a food. I can imagine it is absolutely dangerous when heated. What is the point of adding caramel color. Come on Capella get with the program!!

Greetings everybody!

Have been lurking in DIY threads for a while now and I've really been enjoying the humor and helpfulness of the posters here.

I finally got 10 of the Capella flavors and after trying some of them with the 1 drop, then 2 drop, etc per 20 drops of PG or VG, I gave up and decided to try the water tasting method. Mostly because I'm a clutz with an atty.

So with adding 1 drop of flavor to 5ml of distilled water and swishing it around in my mouth, here is my taste review.

Please note that I consider my tastebuds to be pretty wonky. Most fruity flavor juices that I've tried from vendors remind me of the flavor in my mouth after hurling.

blueberry - sour (after hurling flavor)
caramel - chemically - second try...hard caramel candy after initial chemical taste
french toast - bready/eggy, no maple
espresso - burnt something...grain or grass? not getting coffee
marshmallow - the toasted part of a lightly toasted marshmallow
cappuccino - creamy and sweet but not getting the coffee
cheesecake - coconuty?
raspberry - spot on to the fruit, not sweet
apple pie - apple & cinnamon, reminds me of the filling of McDonald's apple pie
vanilla custard - artificial something? can't put my finger on it

Now my question to you lovely folks is: have you tested any of these in water and do they taste even vaguely similar in vg/pg recipe when vaping?

Also, does anybody think that the raspberry would mix well with the cappuccino?

I'll be mixing up some of the cappuccino and apple pie soon. Wish me luck and TIA to anybody who responds!

OK I put 1 drop of my new found favorite apple pie in 5ml of zero water it taste a little bit stronger and harsher then my diy of 12% apple pie splash of snickerdoodle type 3 drops lemon juice mixed in a 30 ml bottle at 70 vg/30 pg I think it's because I'm not drinking my juice and the vg sweetens it.

I bet some EM would fix it right up.

@kabonk..."stronger and harsher" in water....thank you!

@GoodDog...I'm sorry if I didn't clearly state the question. What I meant was, do the flavors taste the same to YOU in water as they do in vaping?

I really didn't mean that others would agree with how they tasted to me in water. I forewarned you about my wonky tastebuds. LOL

Thanks for the tip about EM! I don't have any yet. I have an aversion to artificial sweeteners and I'm wondering if EM will produce the yucky aftertaste that those sweeteners do for me. I guess the only way to find out is to get some, right? :)

@lulu...now that's interesting! It tasted good to you in water but not in a recipe. Thanks for sharing that!

LOL No, those descriptions don't reflect what the flavors vape like. I doubt Capella would be so popular in the diet industry if they tasted anything like that either. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :D
(First, my apologies for the length, but it's got some great info)
I agree w/GD. The flavorings in water do not reflect the taste when they are mixed & vaped. I know because I tried the drops in H2O, too :)

I have used Capella Chocolate Fudge Brownie in my AM coffee just to see what would happen. (Mind you that I do use milk & sugar in my coffee.) 4-6 drops in a MUG of coffee & the flavor is great. A 10 oz coffee mug is ~295 ml which equals about 1 drop @ 59 ml. So 1 drop in 5 ml is VERY strong when you swish/drink it. WAY past the good flavor threshold.

The best method I've found for testing individual flavors is the 20 drop vape test that Str8V8ping recommends. This method seems to reflect the true flavors.

This is Str's method from a post somewhere here in ECF land (I saved it to a Word doc, so it's now a cut & paste job):
I fill a 3ml bottle with 20 drops of pg with dropper .The bottle is marked off for the 20 drop level. Then i add one drop of flavoring with the same dropper. I then shake the bottle and put 3 drops in a atty and vape it. I then add 2 drops pg and another drop flavoring to keep the bottle at the marked level . Next i drop 3 drops and vape (10%) . Then repeat until 20-25% just to be sure i dont undershoot my sweet spot and to know what it tastes like when it reaches a over flavored percentage . On flavors i think are going to be stronger i will start with a 40 drop base so i can start at 2.5% . Its not 100% accurate but its pretty close . I have done this on about 90 out of the 100+ flavorings i have .Its works really well to improve your diying . I dont know how id diy without doing it now . On each flavor i take notes and right down the sweet spot percentage and then taste notes on the flavor and overflavor etc . I also let them steep when im done and try it the next day and write notes on the taste after steeping.

I used this method last night to try 5 new flavors, noted findings & wrote down the percentages, mixed some juices today, & the flavors are right on :)

Gloria - IMHO, I find that EM sweetens without being overly sweet & it doesn't have an artificial aftertaste. It also adds some "body" to the mixes.

Hey Gloria am glad to see you taking a walk on the wild side here with potentially mixing your own juice. :D I want to say this much-- the flavors in water are going to taste different than they will taste in PG or VG. As you probably saw, Capella's has drops made specifically for flavoring water probably disperses a little differently. I have not used these any other way than for vaping. When I did frequent low carb forums, I saw that they had mixed reviews and of course that will be true of any of their flavorings for this intended purpose.

Anybody who reads this big crazy thread and still wants to dive in is a brave soul  As you have probably read, we get a little rowdy and vociferous on occasion with our opinions. One thing is for sure, you are bound to find Capella's very good once you determine your favorites.

Just tried some LMP at 15%. Unfortunately, I taste coconut in this. I guess they are shooting for a Graham Cracker Crust or something but for me, there is not enough lemon flavor and too much crust. If I had some lemon flavoring to add to it, it would be fine. My problem is that I hate coconut so I can taste even a tiny amount of it. Personally, I've never had a Lemon Meringue Pie that had any coconut taste in it. Oh well, that's the first Cap flavor that didn't work for me.

On the other hand, the Chocolate Fudge Brownie at 15% tasted just like ............Chocolate Fudge Brownie!! Excellent on it's own but amazing when I added a touch of Creme de Menthe to it. Wow!
