Hey folks.
I am not a mech guy. I started looking into a mech as a backup. If the world ends and my Provari breaks, what will I do!? I ofcourse came across the caravelas, and they sure are pretty. They seemed to be shrouded in mystery though.
How much is one? I know resale ones go throught the roof, but if I get on the list, what are the prices of these things?
Where is this "waiting list" for them? The website has very little info.

Thanks:)

It's just a mech mod with a fancy 8-letter name.

There is no shroud of mystery; anybody can make a mech mod and give it a fancy name; it sells just as naming a car helps sell the car, and giving the car some stylish artwork and making it pretty sells the car.

If you have to get on a list then you're probably spending too much money

Mine's a copper clone bought on eBay in February. I know, I know, never buy on eBay --but I did. $24 including shipping.

It's a straight-forward bright-penny finished copper tube with nice engraving. Looks pretty, feels good in the hand, substantial, works fine. I know we all tend to defend and support our own choices but this one turned out fine for me. I use it every day without issues. Firing button is a little quirky --has to be rotated to just the right spot-- but once found it's not a problem. You get used to it.

While I'llnever buy one, they do have a bit more going then just another tube

They come in lmtd editions.
One model had silver plated tubes and switches
One model was pure 999.9 silver about 3 k dollars
Even direct they aren't cheap.

I know we have one in the classifieds now

Only you can decide if its worth it for you.

If there is no link to a sign up list on the site they arent making any right now. I checked the vela forums no one is talking about a new model.

Cost will be determined by the features of that version

Looks like you outta luck chuck

If you are really interested you need to sign up on their forum for updates if he opens a list it will go fast and only members can gef on the sheet. There is no for sale of storefront.

People on the caravela forum may be able to help you find ones for sale by other members as thsy are all registered there

Another good place to check is vaperwall ( if they even let you in).

Well...
Thanks for the input guys.
I don't suppose anybody can answer the 2 questions I asked?
:)

As far as I know Pedro is no longer making any new Caravelas, I think he made 999 and he only makes extra tubes for anyone that has 1 of those. If you want 1 of his mods the Nau is his new one and is available here:

Vaperev Shop - Caravela

If you want a Caravela you'll have to buy a used one.

I would try out a well built clone before paying the price of a kidney for an older mod design, just to see if it worked for you.
Clones don't hurt Pedro, every run of Caravela mods sell out.
A 700$ mod with a carto tank just doesn't scream top of
the line or innovation to me.

To me Caravelas are like Rolex watches. Collectible jewelry, not exactly the best performers in today's market, but have a dedicated following of enthusiasts and collectors.

You can still find authentic velas at a really good price. Maybe not the Nau. I got my pair of authentics from an internet friend for 400$. I had every intention of ordering a brand new one with the spare that was available on the serial. I just passed them on to another internet friend for what I got them for, only I upgraded that old tech swapable pin system for a GP 2.5 pin. At the time they were made they were the best thing going. It is amazing how finely made finely made things can be.

That being said I would not pay 600$ for a Nau, just not for me. I would not pay 600$ or more for a Glas,I do not care how finely made it is, it is not worth it. There is a wealth of decently priced authentic mechs you can get that will go the distance a lot of them in the 100$ range.

At the end of the day it is your money, buy what strikes your fancy and be happy with it, or buy the next thing after that. :)

Find a good clone, then find the addy you wanna use in it, now put them together adjust the center pin, add battery put mod together.
Now, is there a gap? Quite possibly. File the pin down a lil at the time til it fits. Now you just saved $585!

Once you adjust centerpin properly on the mechmod, there is no gap. If fact this is one of the big pluses that you find on a common mech mod that you don't see often on a regulated mod.

Most of the Caravela clones do not have an adjustable center pin.
Some do, most have a solid floating pin.
Often it is a wee bit too long. 2 minutes of gentle sanding makes it perfect.

We have a few Caravela clones in our collection and I've played with dozens
Almost every clone company makes one because it's a very simple, popular device.
