I've never had issues using too much. BTW - your Reo is probably more likely to spark when you release the fire button.

Noalox is messy but cheap! Deoxit is not messy but not cheap!

In time the gold plating will wear off the firing pin; when that happens it's not time to panic - just carry on the same, because under the gold is copper. Just never file the new Reo firing pins and you'll be just fine.

ETA - the reason i use the magnets is to stop any arcing pitting my batteries - i have one Reo setup that is particularly vicious and it would blow chunks out of button-top batteries. It does have the old spring steel contacts however. I drown that in Noalox, with no ill-effects.

Yeah bro, the sparks I get when I get them are after the firing pin is released, or right as it's being released - exactly. It doesn't happen the instant I press the button but as soon as I let up. Good to know that using too much isn't an issue. So applying deoxit after every battery charge shouldn't be a problem?

If that's the case I think I'm doing ok, just gotta keep an eye out and reapply deoxit every charge or so.

I will look into magnets...very interesting idea bro.

Is the "misfire" thing because of too much solution? What are your thoughts on that? I only have misfires / delays when there's a liberal amount of solution on the contacts.

Guys like Super-X apply deoxit religiously to their batteries and it appears to work very well for them. But to be fair - they are not pushing coils below about 0.5Ω and in my experience, that's always been where things get squirrelly on a Reo!

You could well be right that early misfires are because it's wet. I'd imagine that disappears pretty fast with a couple of fires. I'm a bit of a button masher, so i never noticed that delay. I know how hard i "ought" to press the button - but, well, it never became a habit for me!

The way i've always run my Reos and batteries is:

Once a week i'll clean the Reo out under the faucet, then clean the firing pin with alcohol. Noalox/Deoxit that and all the batteries i have.
Nothing more.

I'm not saying that some people don't pour TLC on their gear (good for them!) but that it's not necessary to make it run better and my laziness gets the better of me and is distilled into "clean it once a week - enough!"
