You can take some steel wool to the brass and clean it up . If I am going to totally rebuild a mod like you want to . I remove the juice well and the button sand it really good and hit it with steel wool . If the inside is nasty wipe it out with acetone . Its much easier to remove the button and the juice well if your going to refinish a mod

Woodvil (1st run) I sent to the spa had seen much better days in terms of hardware and finish. When it came back you would have thought it just come off of the Mod master's production line.
