I just started using a PV two weeks ago and have a generic one w/atty. I ordered a Joye 510 w/atty and should have it in a couple of days. My question is...what is the difference between using an atty and a carto? Should I go ahead and purchase some cartos and see which I like best? Some of this information can get so confusing...lol.

A cartomizer is an atty/cartridge combo. They are nice to have especially if you drive alot. Fill some up the night before and you'll be set. I would rather use a carto than an atty....I'm not into cartridges or dripping. The best brand IMO is Boge. Carto's hold more juice than a cartridge and taste better....just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I'm thinking I'm going to try the atty for a while and get used to it and then try the carto and see if I like it any better, or if there are occasions that I would prefer to use that. Not sure about the dripping because it seems to me that it would be a hassle having to top it off almost constantly...I may be headed towards being a chain vaper...lol. Happy Vaping!!

I find I go back and forth. But I am just beginning and my preferences have not really been established. Cartos have their advantages with holding more and giving more vapor. But they can be more messy to fill and get going than an atty and cart combo. But the atty heats up faster and so I like the carto if I feel like chain vaping. Also, the first carto I got tasted horrible and I thought it was just cartos in general. But the other 4 that I had were fine. I cleaned the bad carto really well and now it's fine. Don't know what happened there but it was worth the effort to get it working again.

So yeah, get a few cartos. Especially if you are vaping a lot.

The current run of cartomizers with the heating coil at the top have given me the most satisfying vape so far, a little warmer and more flavorful that attys I have used. They are also very easy to clean the coil (dry-burns), since you can see your progress. I also like the clear-o-mizers, so I can see how much juice I have. Unfortunately, the clears don't travel well in my pocket, and will crack and leak sooner or later. By contrast, the Ego tank system (uses an atty) is more durable and realiable, but I don't get as good a vape out of it....and, you can't see the coil (even with the wick/piercing plate removed), so cleaning is an act of faith.

Most of all, have spares on hand of whatever you decide you like, nothing worse than finding no way to vape in the middle of the day ;-p

Interesting info here! I just ordered my first starter kit and am waiting for it to arrive, so I haven't tried it yet in order to know how all this is going to work for me, but when I was researching all the information I could find, I had been under the impression that whether using a regular cartridge + atomizer or a cartomizer, I'd have to be adding e-juice to it every 6-7 puffs.

Now, in reading this thread, it seems when using a cartomizer, it's not necessary to add the juice as often as that? True? If so, I suspect that my future orders from the supplier will include a bunch of those instead of the carts.

There's 3 methods. 1) atty+cart, 2)Direct dripping (no filler in cart) and 3) cartomizer. (there are other exotic dripping devices, but I won't go into those). For 1 and 2, a drop of e-liquid will give you about 4 long puffs. You can get a max of 3 drops in method 1 before the atty starts to flood,
so that's about 12 long puffs. You can get a refill in method 2 of about 5-10 drops onto stock filler depending on how long you want wait for it to soak, or you can try one of the cart mods. For ten drops that's about 40 long puffs. The cartomiser is a different breed, it's basically a long thin thread of metal wrapped into the filler material so the overall volume of the cart can be increased. I guess you might get about 20-40 drops in there (i forget cos haven't used one for long time), but that's a lot of puffs in anyone's books.

With the new 3-4 ml cartomizers you get more like 80-120 drops. The recent bigger ego-t takes a lot too (maybe 50?). Of course a little 510 battery is going to look kinda silly with a 3.5 ml carto on it :)
Both cartomizers and atomizer work well for me. Better flavor with the atty, but ease of use for the carto.

Note - dripping is not recommended if you got auto batteries. And if you have auto batteries you need to be extra careful w/ cartomizers because the exact place they would drip is on the hole in the threaded end and an auto battery has its drag sensor there. Gum up or kill the drag sensor and an auto battery is useless.

Another note - don't use any attys or cartos labeled "LR" or "low resistance" on a slim 510. Those are meant for the fat battery models that can handle the extra current flow. And any ones you see labeled HV are higher resistance and meant for high voltage models. You want standard resistance for a 510 or any slim battery.

510 manual batteries are totally sealed metal on the threaded end.

Re cartos - I like cartos for most of the time (Boge cartos, and I do not like SLB ones). And sometimes I drip (especially to test new juices). And occasionally I use a cart to give an extended test to a juice I think I like. Sometimes on the 510 I use a Joye 306 (standard resistance, not LR) atty and its cart which I restuffed w/ blue foam - the Joye 306 atty is tiny and together with its cart is the same size as a standard carto. I haven't try Clearomizers yet but people seem to like the latest xl ones.

And I just bought a new Joye 510-T tank atty and a 5-pack of empty tanks to try. It's a new tiny tank setup for the 510. Now I need to find a 18 gauge blunt syringe for filling those.

mwa - I just ordered one brand new 510-T tank atty and 5 empty 510-T tanks yesterday - not arrived yet. but I bought them because somebody else seemed very pleased with them. These are new - not the 510 smartcarts aka tankcarts for use on any 510 atty, not Ego tanks. 510-T is an Ego-like tank system for slim 510's.

There is no one best way or product, each has good and bad points. I have attys, cartos and drip tips in various resistance, from various manufacturers, in various styles, with various mods. I still find myself using all three options daily, as different juice thickness and flavor will perform better with an atty vs. a carto vs. dripping. Variety is the spice of life, try each and see what you like with what juice. :)
