Hey guys. I just received my regular sized SS tank with a Boge "pre-dotted" cartomizer. I'm having some issues here. First of all, even with very thick liquid the tank leaks from where the edge of the tube meets the SS bottom cap. The holes punched in the Boge are so large that as soon as juice is put into the tank it immediately leaks straight out the bottom of the cartomizer.
I tried a different cartomizer of mine just to test the tank itself without the poorly "dotted" Boge and the tank most definitely leaks from where it's supposed to seal along the edge of where the tube meets the bottom cap. I took a close look at it at my bench with my bench lights and a magnifying glass and found that the tube has some very tiny gaps where it meets the o-ring, therefore not producing a proper seal.
Is this a common problem, and even if not, is there quality control before shipping these things out?
I wasted quite a bit of plain VG on this thing in my initial test fill. Noticing that the VG leaked out quickly from the side of the tube and also directly out of the bottom of the cartomizer, I didn't even bother with a PG liquid.
Edit: I've found that the tube itself is not perfectly round. It's oblong, therefore the leaking occurs from the edges of the tube where it doesn't meet the o-ring properly.
How I resolved the issues (Please read before making a conclusion as to the quality of these tanks)
Despite the issues associated with the oval instead of circularly shaped tube and the cartomizer having seemingly been drilled out too much, therefore consistently leaking, I've made some changes that have helped resolve the issues. Firstly, the end caps are top notch. They're beautifully machined and nearly perfect in every way, so I figured it was worth trying to fix.
What I did was I used a shrink wrap gun to heat the tubing while the caps were in it, getting it decently pliable. Then I applied pressure with my hand to the tank and rolled it across my work bench until I felt that it was shaped well enough to seal to the SS caps. No more leaking where the tube meets the caps now.
Secondly, to fix the issue with the holes being entirely too large in the cartomizer, I decided to go to my neighbor, who I knew liked to work in his shop because I always hear loud machinery going on over there, and see if I could get him to help me turn an SS tube and fit some o-rings on the inside wall. What we ended up with was the equivalent of what you guys sell as "drip shields."
The one we made is much shorter but the same exact specifications otherwise. The difference being that this shield has a sliding/adjustable notch in it to allow for a range of seeping in from the tank to the filler. I simply slid this shield over the Boge, adjusted it to my liking, and voila, no more juice pouring out all over my shorts. *Ahem*
I'd be more than happy if you guys started making these, put my name on them, and sold them as an accessory for your carts and tanks. With something like this, you don't have to be so careful as to what size the dots need to be, as it's always adjustable.
I'll take a couple of pictures when I wake up. Or maybe even a video.
Edit: An easy way to make a dotted cart with an adjustable juice feed is to cut the closed end of a condom from a bottom-feed type of atty and slide that over the cart to where it closes the holes up just enough for a solid feed of juice without over juicing the cart. Just an idea.
Thanks in advance,
