Hi all,

New to vaping and have to say there's quite a learning curve here. I'm suffering a bit from information overload and am turning to you guys for some advice.

Until I get my 'feet wet' I've decided to go the cartomizer route as this seems to be the easiest way to get started. I decided to start with Joye 510 batts (180 mAh manual switch) and since I spend a lot of time at my desk, I also ordered a smok Tech 5V USB passthru unit.

For the passthru, I ordered smok Tech 3.2 ohm cartomizers. The vender description said these would also work with the Joye batts but I've read elsewhere that this resistance may too high for the batts. I've also read that 3.2 ohm may be too low for the 5V passthru.

Arggg...I don't know. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The 3.2ohm cartos will be good with the 5V passthrough, but they'll be lousy with the 180mah battery.
Most folks like to vape between 6 and 10 watts. With the passthrough, you'll be getting 7.8Watts. That's in the sweet spot.
With a 3.7V battery, like your 510, you'll be getting 4.28 Watts, which is pretty lame.

For the 180mah battery, you want to go with a lower resistance, but not below 2ohms. 2.4-2.5ohms is ideal for a decent vape with minimal battery strain. That would give you 5.48 watts, which isn't earth shaking, but it's acceptable.

And just FYI. Don't plug your 5V passthrough directly into your computer USB. The current draw is more than USB ports are designed for and you could even trash your motherboard. Either use a self-powered hub capable of handling a 2amp current draw, or an equivalent AC/USB adapter.

3.2 too low for the pass through? Do they make a resistance any higher? Lol. No it's fine dude. 3.0 can take you to about 6 volts safely. As for your other batts, eh, I'm not saying they'll hurt your device, but they probably won't perform the best. I'd suggest something like 2.5 res (pretty standard) for your batts.
