Not sure if this is the correct sub-forum for this, if a mod feels it better suited to another sub-forum, please feel free to move it. :)

This is how I clean out my (Smoketech) clear dual coil cartomizers.
It would work for any carto AFAIK.
Most of these cartos have been in operation for a little over a month now, being constantly rotated through different juice mixes and blends.
Here's how I do it and this pictorial took me MAYBE 15 minutes to clean 6 juice-filled cartos and have them all ready for new assignments.
Sweet. :)

I have seen several people poo-poo the idea of using a compressor for various reasons.
So if you're not comfortable using it for whatever reason, then don't do it.
My opinion is that it's a fantastic addition to my vaping experience and I wouldn't go backward now if you paid me.

On to the Pics!:

1. This is a bunch of carto's ready for cleaning.
Tops removed w/ a toothpick, Syringe ready, We're ready to go.
CartoCleanout.jpg

2. This is showing the cup of hot distilled water I am going to use.
I put the meat thermometer in there to check temp. for you guys, I had never actually checked temp. before, just nuked it until it was very hot, but not so hot I couldn't work with it.
Too hot will melt/distort the plastic sleeve anyway.
CartoCleanout2.jpg

3. Sucking up a syringe-full of hot water.
CartoCleanout3.jpg

4. I picked the skankiest carto I had for the pics, it was a carto of Gourmet Vapor's Caramel Macchiato I ordered in double-flavor back when my 'buds were still needing a kick in the pants.
Too strong now, I vaped it a few times, gagged , and now it's time to clean it back out, reclaim the carto, and move on.

This is a perfect usage example of this cleaning system, I use my cartos for sampling too.
If I don't like it, I just clean it right back out and start over again.
Easy Peasy.:)
You can see I'm just starting to inject the hot water into the bottom of the carto, it will primarily flush it from the bottom up, but will flush it out of the center hole too.
CartoCleanout4.jpg

5. I just keep filling the syringe and flushing over and over, it usually takes about 8-10 syringe-fulls to clean one, but you can do it as many times as you wish.
From one syringe to the next, I continually rotate the carto around, flushing from a different position each time, almost always inserting the syringe all the way down to the bottom of the carto.
CartoCleanout5.jpg

6. This is what it looks like once cleaned, but still full of water.
When you see exactly how much water is still left in there, you'll freak out, it's more than you might think and would take a LONG time to evaporate, but we're getting ahead of ourselves now, aren't we?
CartoCleanout6.jpg

7. Here's a shot of all of them cleaned out, but still full of water.
I take the tops and toss them into what's left of the hot water to clean them, no pic necessary for that.
CartoCleanout7.jpg

8. We've now moved to the garage and the blowout stage.
This is a pic of my compressor, I usually have it attached to a holding tank with filters for shooting lacquer finishes, but remove all that to make it simple and easy for this operation, just needing the hose and a 1/4" air chuck.
Again, if you happen to not approve of this for whatever reason, then don't do it, easy.
I happen to love it.
CartoCleanout9.jpg

9. It blows that much out in about 2 seconds, but I let it blow for 30 more to really dry it out, then I switch ends and blow it from the other end. You can blow from either end, it doesn't make much difference really, except once I was holding it on so tight blowing from the top down it actually blew the end off of the carto. I usually don't hold on to them 'that' tight tho, I was 'gettin' extreme' that day, haha! This is showing blowing from the top down.
CartoCleanout11.jpg

10. This a pic simply showing blowing it from the bottom up.
CartoCleanout12.jpg

11. This is really the 'money shot', showing just how much water comes out of one of these things, and if you're just rinsing and letting dry naturally, just how much water has to evaporate out.
That is a LOT of water to ask to evaporate out on it's own, and shows why this way is so effective, it puts the carto right back into operation immediately as that puppy is DRY now.
CartoCleanout13.jpg

12. All cartos clean, dry, and happy now.
Just one more step necessary to ready them for another round of fresh juice and back into rotation.
CartoCleanout14.jpg

13. Back to Base Camp with a bottle of rubbing alcohol,a paper towel, and a Sharpie.
CartoCleanout15.jpg

14. I take some rubbing alcohol, apply it to the paper towel, and roll the carto in the alcohol to clean the outside of any stray juice and to remove the prior name.
CartoCleanout16.jpg

15. A clean carto is a happy carto!
CartoCleanout17.jpg

16. And happier yet back snuggled with the 'bros., ready for My Next Juice Mix!
CartoCleanout19.jpg

That's it, the whole thing barely took 15 minutes flat to get 6 dirty cartos cleaned out, dried out, and ready for the next go-round.

I don't keep these cartos all full of juices anymore, they stay like this until I feel the need to refill them, I like keeping them this way now as opposed to keeping 10-15 cartos full of various juices, because filling with the syringe only takes 1 minute of itself too, so re-filling is also a breeze.

Hope you enjoyed it, and maybe it will help someone enjoy their vaping experience a little more, it certainly has made mine better.

Thanks Chet for the assist!

now, how much does a compressor like that cost? And where to buy one?
You can get them at any Home Depot-style Big Box store or on-line I'm sure, and mine is really oversize to get the job done, you could probably get much smaller if buying just for this sole purpose.
I've had mine for many years, but I think something in this catagory runs around $100.00+.

there is a small amount of oil that comes out of those home air compressors. Be aware of that.

I was waiting for one of you poo-poo'ers to show up, it didn't take long.

I can appreciate your concern, and as already stated, if you feel uncomfortable with it, then don't do it.
But don't ruin it for everyone else crying the sky is falling unless you've seen it for yourself and can show me, and I seriously doubt you can.
Otherwise, I pretty much call BS/the sky is falling scare-tactic on that. :)

What are you setting the psi on?I wouldn't worry about to hot of water i have put the clear tube dc cartos in boiling water without a issue.

I think my default is around 60 psi, but I'm sure anything above 15-20 would probably work fine.
It really doesn't need much pressure at all to get the job done, it's a very small capacity we're dealing with.

What if you don't have an air compressor (they're not really all that cheap) - just blow them out and let them dry for a week?

Yeah, I understand that, and I'm not trying to tell everyone to run out and buy one...just saying that if you do happen to have one, or your need for quick vaping carto versatility warrants buying one, that it's a priceless commodity to have and use.

And mine are all Smoketech dual coil cartos.

I didn't tell you not to do it. Just a fact of how they work. There is a very small amount of oil. Just wanted people to know about it.

What did I ruin? Get a life dude

Your method might be sound, but the execution is flawed. Fray is absolutely right. I've used compressors as small as the pancake style for DIY'ers, and industrial ones the size of your living room. They can and do have a fine mist of oil or other contaminates in the tank that will spray out. More often with the at-home sized compressors, the biggest contamination issue is moisture that gets trapped in the tank, and collects in the bottom causing rust. You may not see it immediately when you discharge air from the hose; however try tilting the compressor over in the direction where your relief valve is on the bottom and open that valve. There's a pretty good chance that if you live in an area that ever gets humid conditions, that you're going to see a nasty muddy-red spray come out.

This isn't a BS scare tactic, this is knowledge from someone who actually knows what he's talking about. While we're at it, I think it's pretty irresponsible of you to not only tell people this is a good idea, but then try to discredit someone who's making people aware that your idea could actually be harmful to them.

To those of you considering using this method, don't believe me. Do your own research and come to your own conclusions. Google the subject or read through this thread from a DIY forum about the contaminates that are commonly found in home compressors: DIY forum and then decide if that's the quality of air you'd like to be shooting through your cartomizers.

Nice pics. Those cartos look really clean.

Skip the compressor and get one of these rubber tip lanyard e-cig holders to attach your cartomizer

Take it outside and give it a good spin and they will be dry in no time. Good to get old juice out too, in reverse to get juice in.

It is still scare tactics, plain and simple.

I've been using that compressor for 10-15 years now, so if you want to refer to someone who knows something about them from actually using them repeatedly on a daily basis, hundreds of times, well here I am.
I do drain it after every shoot, and my personal experience is quite different than yours.
I have never once seen anything remotely like you are trying to scare people with, or else I wouldn't do it myself, I tend to be a very clean and organized person who would not use such a nasty device to begin with, and you shouldn't either.

As I said, show me a pic, I'm guessing you can't, unless you're using some gnarly old compressor I wouldn't be using in the first place. :)

Scare tactics, and I don't know why you feel so compelled to scare people off.

Great idea about flushing them out with a syringe. What if you don't have an air compressor (they're not really all that cheap) - just blow them out and let them dry for a week?

I have a compressor but I find it almost as effective to blow out w/ mouth after PGA rinse.

If not dry enough you can heat to 150F w/ hair dryer, etc.

Pics of dual coil after weeks use.
