In my experience the caps/plugs don't have to be kept on the carts when carrying them around. The caps DO help keep them a little fresher, though, and I find that the carts fit in the cutouts in the cases better when they have the caps on. Just remember, if you plan on refilling your carts keep those caps and plugs handy, youll need them when refilling.

I was wondering the same thing... From the replies it seems that leakage is not a problem without the caps?

No, but there is a possibility of some small amount of evaporation depending on the environment. And as someone else said, there is also the creepy crawly thingy.

I only keep the rubber cap off one end to identify arts that need to be refilled.

I read somewhere here that oxygen is death to nicotine, hence the ".... plug" and two caps we get on the carto's--I think it's less to do with leakage (although if you refill, they're a must as mentioned above) and more to do with keeping what's in the carto fresh/potent.

If you go through your supply of carried cartos in a day, I don't see the need for the caps. If they hang around unused for longer, cap 'em...

I typically just put the condom on one end of my cartomizers (usually the mouth end). Without at least one condom on the cart, they tend to make a noticeable rattle in the PCC case when in my pocket.

The hole on the battery side of the cartomizers have that little funnel going about half way up inside the cartomizer itself, so I can't see much air passing through that side, ergo probably not very much evaporation going on there, especially if you have the cartomizer sealed up inside a carrying case.

I started snipping off the closed end of some of my carto-condoms and using them around the carto and battery when they are in the case. This way they do not rattle around when I am walking.

I also use the carto-condoms as a way of keeping track of which cartos are what:

Condom on both ends = NEW
Condom on mouth end = USED or REFILLED
NO Condom = Empty and needs refilled (I also keep these in a separate little box with all the extra caps/plugs/juice until I get around to refilling them.
