Cartomizer punching?

I've read some things about cartomizer punching. Is this a required step?

I've always bought cartos without and punched holes in them and just used them out of the box, but this most recent batch I bought, the filling will not absorb ANY liquid (Boge 510 I believe). Is punching holes in the carto a requirement or is that only for a specific purpose?

And on the topic of the filler not absorbing any material, is there any way to fix this without throwing away all the cartos I bought?

Punched cartos are meant to be used in cartotanks exclusively. The holes allow for the juice in the tank to have a way to get wicked into the cartomizer.

If you have been using cartos "solo" (not in a tank), you don't want to use punched cartos.

Some carto's filler material can be downright non-absorbable. Boges are notorious to have a more densely wound filler material which makes it more difficult to fill them (generally speaking). If these cartos are as bad as you say they are, contact the vendor where you purchased them from.

Yeah I thought as much, thanks for the info!

As for my cartos not absorbing liquid, any tips for that? I heard a suggestion to soak them in alcohol, and another to try boiling it. Anyone have any experience with either?

Never heard of that, and I definitely don't recommend it.

Is the filler absorbing ANY e-liquid at all? Or is it just slow? Normally Boges can take a long time to absorb liquid; one of the reasons I don't use that brand. It seems that the people who do use Boges use the condom method to fill them. Search YouTube for videos on the condom fill technique for cartomizers.

If the cartos are not absorbing ANY e-liquid...like it is stone-like...they sound like they are defective.

They are not absorbing the liquid at all. At most they are absorbing minuscule amounts. And I know this because I have purchased and used the same cartomizers before and they absorbed the liquid perfectly (I use the condom method and when I push the carto into the condom, when I have a properly working carto I can see the liquid begin to drain as it gets soaked up. With these ones, the liquid just pools at the top and doesn't drain).

These cartos are defective then. Contact the supplier and demand replacement.
