There are several good videos on youtube about filling a cartomizer. Well worth watching.
The "hole" you see in the middle is the airway. While filling the white stuffing try to avoid getting juice in the "hole/ airway". If you do get juice in airway, as previously mentioned, blow the excess juice out the battery end into a tissue. Also helps to "roll" the carto after filling.
OK thanks! But in a lot of videos I saw people filling the carto with the a syringe, either through the hole in the threaded end, or the hole in the mouthpiece.
Do they have a different brand/type of carto, or are they just doing it wrong?
Like so many things, different people prefer different ways of filling the carto. The object is very simple - get the filler material soaked with juice but not so soaked that it gets into the airhole in the middle. Whichever method you prefer to accomplish that task is ok.
If you don't do it perfectly, you won't ruin the carto. If you overfill it, it will be gurgly and won't draw smoothly until you use up or blow out the excess juice. And you may get a little juice in your mouth (which is less likely if you use a driptip). If you underfill it, it will dry out faster and you'll have to add juice more often.

dripping drops slowly- takes a long time and sometimes does not fully saturate the stuffing thus leading to a burnt carto.
filling a syringe and putting needle down sides of stuffing
condom- usually fully saturates the carto.
I have tried all the above methods and found, for me, the condom fill is best. VERY important to first fill/ fully saturate the carto. I use a tank so after the first fill I do not need to drip or condom fill unti I change the carto which is about 2 weeks. I still have to fill the tank twice per day. Here's a vid on condom filling. The key is to push the carto VERY SLOWLY into the condom. After this step you can then drip drops in the tops as needed. Before I got the tank I would place a round toothpick in the airway when refilling using the drip method..

The video posted is a great way to do it...much better than holding a paper towel on your lap and taking 10 minutes dripping 8-10 drips at a time till it starts to over flow
I do the drip, drip, drip method. Works well and doesn't take that long. I find an empty 1/2 hour and do five at once.
