I have never used a cartomizer before (coming from the cart and stuffing world). I read on another board that cartomizers are a little "touchy", and that you should only use pre-mixed juice in them. Is this true? I ask because I have some unflavored nic- liquid and a lot of DIY stuff...and I don't want to start killing cartomizers with my own mixes (plus I want to hoard Steves' juice :D). Or can you use both? Any help would be appreciated.

As an avid fan of Steves juice, and the High Voltage juice from Nhaler, it wouldn't even occur to me to mix my own! lol Both fluids work great in the cartomizer. I do think that you have to watch the consistancy more carefully in the cartomizer, too thick and it won't wick properly if I recall, but I see no reason why you couldn't make your own if you want to, taking that into consideration.

I am sure there must be people here who mix their own, so hopefully they can give you some tips... ;)

JenJen is on the money. The fill in the cartomizer isn't like the fluff in other carts, pretty dense, and so thicker liquid won't flow well.

You can use both no problem. I use my own juice without any issues at all - however when I use 'supplier' juices they do seem to burn a bit more efficiently I would say -> as in more puffs per volume.

The main thing with cartomizers is to not let them burn up or get dry at all as the do get hot.

"Regular" cartomizers like the KR808D types get a bit more hot than the Greencig type. I prefer the greencig type at this point because when you take it apart to refill it, there is actually a humongous cartridge inside that you just pop it out, refill it, put a couple of drops on your atty down in there, pop the cart back in, snap your mouthpiece back on, and vape away.

Yep. Just adding my voice to the mix. I have refilled Steve's cartomizers with juices from all over the place. The only issue I have ever had with this, it that all the other juices taste better in my Vapor King cartomizers than they do in all my other devices, rendering those devices even more useless than they already were! Fill away!

Thicker juices should not be a problem. If the material won't soak the juice, then using the plunger method will force the juice into the material. Once the material is filled, it will wick perfectly. The thickest I have is Mocha from VV and I had to use the plunger method to get it to work. I don't care for the Mocha BTW, not enough flavor.

Omg tell me about it, I was in love with my Cotton Candy in my 510, in my 901 the taste was better THEN I filled a VK cart with it. OMG WOW! the taste was amazing, so much richer and everything, it's hard to explain but you seem to get a lot more flavor from the same juice in a VK cartomizer compared to a 510/901 (my only 2 other devices)

I have heard conflicting stories on Greencig vs. KR808D cartos. Some people here seem to prefer them because they last longer, but others say the new cartos the V4L has last as long as the Greencig cartos. Now you have me curious lol! I am definately going to have to order some of those bad boys and check it out!

Some more advice please...I have been vaping for a little over 3 months- and I have slipped back to a few analogs 3 times in that 3 months. I started out with 18mg. in my 510...good flavor but very little TH and I wasn't feeling satisfied. Moved to a 510 Prodigy for a better TH, and also upped to 24mg....then what I had was (as KC calls it) vaping razor blades, barbed wire, and straight pins. Moved back down to around 16mg, on the Prodigy, which cut the TH down, but now I am back to feeling unsatisfied and starting to have cravings again.

Now, I don't know yet what "punch" the VK has (will soon find out- "ORDER SHIPPED"....YEAH!!!!), so I ordered 24mg cartos and 36mg. cartos. I used to smoke 2-2 1/2 packs of Light analogs a day...so I don't know what strength e-liquid to get that will keep me satisfied. With my 510(regular), I would even drip a few drops of straight 36mg. unflavored on my atty to get me over the rough spots. What strenth(s) would you all recommend for me?

I find I get an awesome throat hit on my VK with a 24mg, 16mg or there abouts is ok but 24mg is where I sit at 90% of the time. The Prodigy is a high voltage device, maybe that's why it hurt vaping 24mg? I debated getting one but I am extremely satisfied with my VK so will probably spend the money there instead. The same 24mg liquids I got an "OK" throat hit off with the 510 I get a GREAT throat hit with the VK.
If that helps any.
I was a roll your own cig person, and I could go through a big can in less than 2 weeks if I was sitting here playing too much. 36mg seems to be a little too harsh for me, I can vape it but I prefer 24mg and I chain vape 24mg with no side effects anymore.

The throat hit on the VK is going to be more significant than on the 510, almost certainly. When I first ordered, I ordered 36 and 24, like you - i didn't have an urge to smoke any analogs, for certain, but i was also getting nicotine sickness by the second day.

I've since found that anywhere from the 11 to 24 is about right for me, depending on the flavor. Chocolate comes in an 18, which is perfect for me on that flavor. Cola is pretty smooth at any nic level, but kind of not satisfying in an 11. Coffee I could probably do ok on 8, because at 16 it seems pretty strong.

I guess the short answer is, try several and see what works for you. My current go-to to stop an analog urge is still a 36 (grape), but I can't take more than a few puffs before I need to change it out for something a little weaker.
