I was wondering if one (or more) of you fine folk can explain to me what exactly a cartomizer tank is and how it works. I am guessing it is like a pre-filled cartridge like thing surrounded by a tank of juice so that it tops itself off.....in a very layman perception. Am I wrong in that?

For a cookie and a new best friend, are there any decent cartomizer tanks available that would fit a volt x2 (808?)

As always, thank you in advance.

You have the idea right. The carto (prefilled cartridge like thing) sits inside the tank and fills itself from the liquid inside via a hole punched in the carto. As long as the tank can fit a 510 carto it should also fit an 808, only difference in size I can see is the actual connection. Finding 808 carto's in stainless steel (no sticker) is a little harder then 510's but they do make them.

You actually might get longer life using the carto in a tank. I seem to. The carto stays wet...and that seems to help it last longer. As for tanks for your X2...you can use any tank...but putting your Volt cartomizer (KR808) is going to be a little problematic because the KR808 is female...so the hole will have to be put considerably higher on the cartomizer than with the 510. But there is no reason it' can't be done, I suppose. Kanger makes an excellent cartomizer (same as who makes the Volts) and yes, SI has them in silver so they are suitable. You just have to be VERY careful to not pierce the coil inside. Try to visualize where it might be in there and position punching the hole a good mm or two about where you feel sure you'll clear it. But it ought to work!

I use non flanged cartos in my tanks all the time. Can't remember when I last bought a flanged carto, and carto tanks are my weapon of choice. I also punch my own, and use the little $6 punch found at many vendors with no trouble. There is a learning curve, but it's not bad. You pick up the feel for it quick if you want to.

Pbusardo just uploaded a great carto tank tutorial. This should get you going (along with Baditude's links)

I've been using the same cheap ($5) dctank for a year now and it works perfect.. but it's a bit slidey. when the AGR tanks come back in stock, I'm getting one.

The PBusardo cartotank tutorial was excellent; thanks for posting it donnah. I will be including the link in my own cartotank tutorial in my blog. The demonstration of what happens to an unprepped cartomizer when fired was quite impressive. I also enjoyed the trouble-shooting of a poor-performing cartotank.

I've been seeing a lot of people complaining of flooding issues with the locking tanks, and PBusardo covers that in this video. Inner pressure issues of tanks with a juice fill hole are likely due to poor technique with the wrong size filling tool. Good to know.

Has anyone tried rebuilding Boge or Iken cartos?

Ummm.. I'm sure it's been tried. I've seen filler material for sale a time or two. But with the rebuildables so widely available now and cartos being so cheap, there's not much point anymore. While the ss mesh rbas have quite a learning curve.. the corded rbas like the igo-l are very easy and forgiving.
